P.O.D. Release the Least Expected Beatles Cover with “Don’t Let Me Down”
There are some combinations that just make you scratch your head. Some people like peanut butter and mayo sandwiches, milk and Coke, pineapple on pizza… But one of the weirdest things I might have ever heard is the fact that Christian nu-metal act P.O.D. covered the classic Beatles song “Don’t Let Me Down”.
But that’s exactly what we got this morning. The same company that got you “Alive” and “Youth of the Nation” put their own spin on the 1969 classic. And while I’m not going to say it’s better than the original (it’s decidedly not), this is a great cover because they made it their own. Gotta love when that happens.
Speaking of the decision to cover a Beatles track, guitarist Marcos Curiel said it was all about paying homage to a band that influenced P.O.D.
“As cliché as it may sound, we’ve always admired The Beatles from the very beginning of our songwriting journey. Their melodies, the hooks, and fearless experimentation inspired us to craft our own take on the classic ‘Don’t Let Me Down’, with nothing but the utmost respect. Thank you for helping lay the foundation of what we all know today as rock ‘n’ roll, pop and metal.”
The cover comes just as the band is about to head out on tour supporting Seether and Daughtry. The tour will run from Virginia Beach, Virginia on October 1 and come to a close on November 15 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Along the way, they’ll make stops in Boston, Baltimore, Denver, Chicago, and more.
