Videos: Anthrax’s Scott Ian Visits His Old Haunts in Bayside, Queens

In Anthrax’s early days the band proudly sported their Queens heritage as thrash metal’s best-known New York City exports and the only members of the Big Four not from California. Time has spread the members apart as time tends to do — bassist Frank Bello is the only one left standing in the NYC area, to my knowledge, although the lineup has of course changed since the ’80s — but guitarist Scott Ian recently returned to his native Bayside neighborhood for a visit and stopped by some of his old haunts.

In a video posted to his personal Instagram account, Ian — who I believe currently lives in Los Angeles (and maintains some kind of residence in the Woodstock, NY area, possibly a summer home) — paid homage to P.S. 169, his elementary school, showing off the schoolyard where he used to play stickball with his buddies as he explains his proprietary home field rules. In a series of pictures that followed, he visited Bayside High School, I.S. 25 Junior High and the Bayside LIRR station, which he describes as “All places I spent a lot of my youth at.” In a subsequent post with another video, he points out the location of his old record shop, Moonshine Records, as well as original bassist Danny Lilker’s street.

Fun stuff if you’re an Anthrax fan and/or you love NYC. Watch/view below.
