DETHKLOK TOUR WILL FEATURE REAL MUSICIANS, NOT CARTOONS

Friday, September 21st, 2007 at 12:06pm by Axl Rosenberg

1172187285673_4.gifThe touring line-up for those upcoming Dethklok shows has been unveiled: Metalocalypse co-creator/music impressario Brendon Small will lead the band, backed by legendary drummer Gene Hoglan (who plays drums on the Dethklok Dethalbum) and two dudes I’ve never heard of who used to play with Steve Vai.

I honestly can’t decide if watching a real-live four piece play Dethklok songs sounds fun or totally lame. But practically everyone who visits this site seems stoked for this tour, so I guess, for now, I’ll give Small and company the benefit of the doubt.

The gigs start in late October; stay tuned for tour dates.

They could make this really cool if they worked it like the Gorillaz did several years back, where they played behind a screen with the images projected on it, but you could still see their silhouettes.

  2. Dr. Rockso says:

i hope they have a clown

  3. maura says:

i’d rather see dwayne play, to be honest.

  4. Amanda says:

This could work, I’d like to see the cartoons playing (yes, lame I know), but this is good as well. Late October? Great, a good birthday gift for me.

  5. ERiK says:

when you create the best metal album of 2007, makes sense to tour. Death metal musicians are cartoons themselves. I see no conflict.

  6. Rob says:

I mean, Brendon Small went to Berklee School of Music, and clearly wants to be a rock star. He’s got the chops to back it up and everyone likes the music, so why not? I mean, we know that the songs are going to kill. I advise anyone not familiar with Brendon’s real life guitar wizardry to look up Thor Von Clemson’s Advanced Fast Hand Finger Wizard Master Class on youtube. It was a bonus feature to a home movies DVD, but it’s fucking hilarious and shows off Brendon’s shredding technique.

Mike Keneally is the co-guitarist – he’s the guy who replaced Steve Vai in Frank Zappa’s band – the guy is a total monster on guitar OR keyboards – he also did back up Steve Vai in a few of his touring bands playing both guitar and keyboards.

He’s also a really wacky funny guy, so I’m sure he probably gets along with Brendon Small well. This should be a really weird tour, … what kind of places would they play??

  8. B says:

The bassist is Bryan Beller, longtime bassist with Mike Keneally, currently on tour with Steve Vai. The guy is a monster player, and also a heck of a nice guy. I recall reading somewhere that the tour will involve …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead.

Dethklok will by coming to my school (Grinnell College in Grinnell, IA) on November 15th, and word from their agents or label or w/e is that they will be playing in front of a screen with the fictional dethklok projected on it. If the Dethalbum is any indication, this should be quite brutal.

  10. Michael Nihlson says:

does anyone know if this is actually free for all or just students of the respective campus’s?

  11. YoSHI says:

There are only 2 shows so far that are open to the public, university of New Mexico and UC Berkley which is week but I am willing to drive 7 hours to watch Dethklok kick some ass. If I had more people I would have us rush the guards at the UCLA show to try and get in as we are not students there.

  12. Jon says:

I get to see them on Halloween! That should be interesting.

This is definitely going to be a memorable event, dethklok is not going to be like the gorillas, there’s a live band so that is going to be very interesting to watch and hear.
