CLINT LOWERY RETURNS TO SEVENDUST? HUH?

7d.jpgHead over to Sevendust’s MySpace page and you’ll find the message “Clint is back! More details to come…” Needless to say, this signals the return of guitarist Clint Lowery to the fold. Presumably this would mean that Sonny Mayo, who replaced Lowery, is out of the group… except both his photo and that of co-guitarist John Connolly are now missing from the “members” listing on the page. So for all we know, Mayo is still in and Connolly is out, or both of ‘em are out and Lowery is back in… we imagine this will get cleared up soon.

I guess this is good news, and I guess it was inevitable that Lowery would someday return to the fold – but the timing strikes me as odd. Sevendust are about to start promoting their new album, Hope and Sorrow, which comes out next week with and which features no contributions whatsoever from Lowery; meanwhile, the band Lowery left Sevendust to form, Dark New Day, just posted a new a song on their own MySpace page over the weekend (ironically titled “Goodbye”). Dark New Day’s MySpace page makes no mention of Lowery quitting the band, and the fact that his brother is also in the band would make you think he’s not gonna leave anytime soon; so is Lowery gonna be in two bands now? Even though they both sound nearly identical?

ANYWAY, if Lowery IS back, this would seem to make the band’s mysterious decision to drop off the Rockstar Energy Mayhem whatever the fuck its called tour even stupider; why reunite, get all that hype, and then waste it on a tour with fucking Saliva?

Hopefully someone will be wise enough to put out an official press release soon and clear up all the confusion. Color us intrigued…

    Clint here.

Well as most of you know I have rejoined with my bros in Sevendust. I’m beyond excited about sharing the stage with them and being apart of they’re world again. First things first, Sonny did a unreal job with the guys and I’m sure I will share some of the pressures of filling his shoes as he did so sucessfully filling mine and then some. I respect Sonny and love him and wish him the best because I have no doubt he will continue success in what ever he does. I won’t get into how this all came about, I will only speak for myself. For me this is a great chance to play with a band I owe my career to and went through everything with for many years good and bad. When you spend that amount of time in a band you form a bond that’s not easily broken. Time has past and I believe nothing in Gods world happens by mistake.
I’d like to address the fans both 7d and DnD. You have all truly been so amazing and really make me remember why I do this. For some this will be hard to understand. All I can say is that I will do my best to be a solid member of 7dust and give you back what you give to any of us who play music. My brother dreamt up what would eventually become DnD. We wanted to play together and to do that with Troy, Brett and Will was a dream come true. I truly believe that we did what we set out to do and that was simply to make music together. Corey and I will always continue to make music together. I wish all the guys the best and love them more than words can say. And I pray that the record we did will see the light of day especially for the people who waited so patiently.
Being back in Sevendust is truly a very exciting time for me and I feel like it will be a very positive thing. I love the records they did while I was gone and actually look forward to playing those songs more than the ones I did with them. I look forward to writing new music with them but for now I want to do my part in supporting the incredible music they’ve created and just be the guitar player. Sevendust is way bigger than any one person, it has a supporting fan base thats rabid and I love all of you because I have been one of you for the past few years. Just another person who loved Sevendust from the outside. Now I’m back in and I promise I will bust my ass to do the job Sevendust deserves.
God Bless everyone and see ya on tour!!!!!!

Headline: Clint Lowery rejoins Sevendust; band returns to being only slightly less boring than now

Too bad he wasn’t around when they wrote the new album. I might have been inclined to listen to it.

i was always inclined to think clint was the talent in the band, and it was proven when he left, cause all sevendust albums since have been shitty, and the dark new day album was actually really good. now they just need to cut morgan rose’s vocal chords and maybe they will have a shot at being good again.

THANK GOD!!! Since he left Sevendust, it sucked! BAD. Sonny’s pretty good guitarist but since Clint left, 7dust went downhill. I’m floored that he’s back and hope they come to Montreal. All hail SEVENDUST.

You got it all wrong- Sonny was the greatest thing that happened to that band and now that he’s gone.. we’ll see what happens.

I haven’t bought an album or downloaded a track since Clint left (although I have listened and done nothing but make comparisons to the old and new sound). I have nothing against Sonny and he is an amazing artist in my opinion, but what he brought to the table was a driving sound that was adverse to the metal sub-genre that gave 7D their staple in the rock industry. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t good music, just that the sound was too different for hardcore ‘dust fans to accept completely. Clint’s style IS Sevendust. His heavy driving guitar with the melodic chorus, overlaid with Lajon’s vocals was what put them on the map to begin with.

….and “the return” is already posted on Wikipedia

Hmm you cant seriously say the Albums with Sonny were bad.. they were different from the other albums but in not way were they bad. That said i cant wait to hear what the next album with Clint will sound like..

Ummm. What’s going on around here. Yeah I’m obviously a new comer to this message board. There isn’t actually a huge difference between Clint and Sonny – they’re both great guitarists. Sevendusts music has evolved – it has never “sucked” but has always been great. And I saw a negative comment about Morgans vocals… one of the greatest things about Sevendust is the combined vocals of Morgan and Lajon. I don’t know what’s going on here but there seems to be some “metal snobbery” going on. I mean if Sevendust has ever been “terrible” or any words to that effect that basically means that all metal is terrible because as far as I can see they have become the yard stick for measuring the quality of metal… there are some perculiar people around. I wonder what some people would actually say in an open forum witnessed by the Sevendust members and reasonable fans. What could they say but positive comments as they would have to literally face up to their statements instead of being internet cowards.
