THIS WEEK IN SOUNDSCAN: 10 YEARS, FILTER, ARSIS, WARREL DANE AND MORE

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008 at 2:06pm by Vince Neilstein

So I am officially boycotting Linkin Park and Nickelback when it comes to these Soundscan reports, until the day those two records drop off the charts. That will be a momentous day indeed.

ANYWAY, debuts from 10 Years and Filter had pretty good first weeks (by today’s standards), as did Iron Maiden’s latest Best-Of compilation. Dokken’s new record also inched into the Top 200 (!) and Emmure’s Victory Records debut performed respectably as well.

Also, new this week, I’m including notable metal releases from the Top New Artists chart, including Arsis, Warrel Dane, Russian Circles and more.

#12 10 YEARS – DIVISION
This Week: 27,981 (Debut)

#31 KID ROCK – ROCK N ROLL JESUS
This Week: 15,092
Cume: 906,851

#42 FILTER – ANTHEMS FOR THE DAMNED
This Week: 12,611 (Debut)

Not bad for an indie label release. Still, Patrick’s gotta be disappointed at how times have changed.

#59 IRON MAIDEN – SOMEWHERE BACK IN TIME: BEST OF 1980-1989
This Week: 10,995
Cume: 11,119

I guess I was wrong about everyone already having these tracks. Proof that you can always sell greatest hits packages to old fogies with money.

#86 BUCKCHERRY – 15
This Week: 8,458
Cume: 1,201,297

#87 SEETHER – FINDING BEAUTY IN NEGATIVE SPACE
This Week: 8,417
Cume: 425,385

#91 FLYLEAF – FLYLEAF
This Week: 8,075
Cume: 1,026,070

#92 THREE DAYS GRACE – ONE-X
This Week: 7,947
Cume: 1,217,046

#129 THEORY OF A DEADMAN – SCARS & SOUVENIRS (Cume: 60,858)
#131 SAVING ABEL – SAVING ABEL (Cume: 34,451)
#133 DOKKEN – LIGHTNING STRIKES AGAIN (Debut: 5,013)
#141 EMMURE – RESPECT ISSUE (Debut: 5,047)
#146 AVENGED SEVENFOLD – AVENGED SEVENFOLD (Cume: 369,076)
#149 NINE INCH NAILS – GHOSTS I-IV (Cume: 74,922)
#150 APOCALYPTICA – WORLDS COLLIDE (Cume: 32,128)
#151 P.O.D. – WHEN ANGELS AND SERPENTS DANCE (Cume: 63,668)
#153 FINGER ELEVEN – THEM VS. YOU VS. ME (Cume: 546,380)
#161 FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH – WAY OF THE FIST (Cume: 124,521)
#162 TESTAMENT – FORMATION OF DAMNATION (Cume: 21,140)
#164 MINDLESS SELF INDULGENCE – IF (Cume: 30,066)
#167 FOO FIGHTERS – ECHOES, SILENCE, PATIENCE & GRACE (Cume: 733,681)
#175 FROM FIRST TO LAST – FROM FIRST TO LAST (Cume: 13,830)
#176 SIXX:A.M. – HEROIN DIARIES SOUNDTRACK (Cume: 213,903)
#177 ATREYU – LEAD SAILS PAPER ANCHOR (Cume: 236,657)
#198 GODSMACK – GOOD TIMES BAD TIMES: TEN YEARS OF GODSMACK (Cume: 237,983)

Some other notable metal stats from the Top New Artists Chart:

#59 DANE*WARREL – PRAISES TO THE WAR MACHINE (Debut: 1,131)

  1. Carlos says:

Is Kid Rock getting airplay anywhere? I never hear him here in L.A. Middle-America is no joke!

  2. Dave says:

You’re so out of touch with today’s music scene that you actually believe it’s only old fogies buying Iron Maiden.

  3. @ Dave:

Actually, I think it’s pretty remarkable that folks of all ages go to Maiden concerts.

No, I’m not out of touch — my point was that old fogies are the only ones buying Iron Maiden GREATEST HITS albums. On the old fogie, dying format of the CD, for that matter.

  4. Sammy says:

Vince and Dave, you guys DO realize don’t you that you’re arguing over 11,119 people? That is such a miniscule number – hell, Maiden could release a “Best of Steve Harris Farts” and it would sell 11,000 copies.

  5. hibernum says:

Maybe Iron Maiden will release a “Greatest hits of the greatest hits”. You know, a collection of their best greatest hits album. They must have 7 or 8 by now.

  6. devil says:

I’m surprised Warrel Dane even charted. Especially since the album is predictable, hack shite. I’m a huge fan of both Sanctuary and Nevermore but “Praises To The War Machine” is truly awful.

I was looking forward to hearing his take on The Sisters Of Mercy’s “Lucretia My Reflection” (because I love that song) but he ought to be kicked in the nuts repeatedly for fucking it up THAT badly. Terrible.

  7. Porkspam says:

Never hear kid rock at all in NYC/NJ either..
at least that paralizer fag band is finally fading away

  8. Colin says:

I have all Maiden’s albums and I almost bought it just for the cover. I’m a sucker like that. and I’m an old fogey.

  9. Conor says:

I’ve already bought We Are The Nightmare twice in Germany and I’ll probably buy it again in the States when I’m next there. 5k in sales is pretty week, but I guess I don’t know how much their other albums sold.
