AM I A WEENIE IF I LIKE THE NEW MISERY SIGNALS SONGS?

misery signals - controllerSo Misery Signals have a new record Controller due July 22nd on Ferret Records. They’ve got two tracks from said record posted on their MySpace page, “A Certain Death” and “Parallels.” And you know what? “Metalcore” as a bad word be damned; this is pretty good stuff. Misery Signals certainly aren’t re-writing the book here or going above and beyond; but this is solid, serviceable — hell, even very well executed metal. Swedish-influenced guitar harmonizing, plenty of chugging, hooky choruses, ya know. But it’s all done way more tastefully than a lot of other bands. Karl Schubach’s guttural-as-fuck deep growls add to the appeal as well.

    A weenie, no…but I’m sorry, I just don’t see what it is you see in these dudes. It’s not necessarily bad, I just can’t see myself ever listening to it again after checking out the myspace page.

    Awesome. I’m just coming around on these guys, I saw them live once (I think?) and they were tight (if that was actually them). Devin Townsend produced the new record, so obviously.. \\m//

    Misery Signals is sick. I sometimes hesitate in thinking of these guys as “progressive metal”…i mean i guess they kinda sorta are…the bottom line is that they rip and they have mastered the delicate balance of ups and downs, a talent that far too few metal acts can muster.

    The first Misery Signals record was fucking incredible. I hope this new stuff recaptures that brilliance…

    Oh, and “metalcore” used to be some of the best music out there before all the kids with women’s jeans and makeup started giving it a bad name.

    Plus, people who think anyone’s a “weenie” for liking music that’s “not extreme enough” are fucking morons.

    i honestly don’t like a bit of it…Swedish influenced harmonies? I surely didn’t hear any. I’ll stick with In Flames, Soilwork, DT, etc.
