SIX FEET UNDER POISED TO BREAK NEW MUSICAL GROUND, PUSH THE ENVELOPE, REINVENT THE WHEEL, AND CURE CANCER
Tuesday, October 21st, 2008 at 2:30pm by Axl RosenbergOr it’s possible they’re just going to release the same death n’ roll album they’ve been releasing over and over and over again since 1995.
But I dunno. Their new album, Death Rituals (out November 11 on Metal Blade), could really revolutionize metal. Based on the first single, “Seed of Filth,” it’s still really hard to say. Hm. Fascinating.
You can stream “Seed of Filth” and decide for yourself here. Like everyone, I give this band shit, but really, I mean no harm (Except when talking about their decision to re-record Back in Black as a death metal album. That was just fucktarded.) ‘Cause a) sometimes meat n’ potatoes is just what you’re in the mood for and b) we give a lot of other bands a free pass for making the same record over and over and over again, so why not these dudes?

Yup, they suck.
Hilarious post, btw.
LMAO!!
I knew where this was going even before I scrolled down from the headline.
ROTFL!!!
Their new songs sound good and Chris Barnes is still the best death metal vocalist ever.
I don’t have so much a problem with Six Feet Under as I do with the fact that Chris Barnes.I’m sorry, the dude is just over the top, as Axl put it, fucktarded. And while it may have not hit the mark, you gotta give the guy credit for having the balls to do Graveyard Classics II.I can’t stand the dude, and I even give him that.
I actually think they aren’t getting the kind of credit they deserve. I mean seriously, how many people actually have the kind of mindset that lets them write the same song over and over (and over and over and over), and play the same songs over and over in a live environment? Any normal musician would have blown their brains out after a couple years due to the sheer monotony, but not Six Feet Under.
If Celtic Frost sucked and had a singer who gargles bleach, they’d sound like Six Feet Under. Their first 3 albums were tolerable, but the shit they’ve put out since (exception being “One Bullet Left” f. Ice T) has been god awful. At least the production is less muddy on the new stuff, but God, it sucks. Listen to the cheesy voicemail left at the beginning of the second song on that list. AWFUL.
i’d have to disagree… i not only think that Chris Barnes is one of the worst singers, but also a fucking douchbag. is it weird that this terrible band was more tolerable when i couldn’t understand him and his lyrics that were written by a 5th grader? they do awful covers of classic songs and write the most boooooring and cliche death metal around and people act like they are the greatest thing since plastic plants.
…and when i call him a douchebag, i mean that the only job he should be able to hold is cleaning out dirty, stinky old vaginas. (or with his hair, he’s make a mighty fine porn booth jiz mopper)
Do people like six feet under? I don’t know that i’ve met anyone that legitimately thinks this band is good…
Tomb of the Mutilated and Eaten Back to Life were fucking sick though. I don’t care who you are.
Six Feet Under is one of those bands I’ve consistently tried to get into but can’t.
I must say i havn’t paid much attention to these guys since maximum violence ( which i loved, including warpath and haunted), but anything after jsut took a wrong turn for me. I have to sya that the two new tracks from thier upcoming album sound great. Hopefully they can redeem themselves. heres to great death metal.
I’m no fan of death metal in general but early SFU I found at least listenable. It’s the vocal style that turns me off the music. I mean there isn’t much to differentiate one band from another. Cannibal Corpse (w & w/o Barnes) and Deicide are among the few that I listen to, I mean once you’ve heard one cookie monster vocal you’ve pretty much heard them all. That said I thought the new SFU track was pretty good.
I must say,I’ve never been a huge Six Feet Under fan, especially when I’ve heard snippets of the last record they’ve released. It’s the most recent stuff I’ve heard first.
I got a request on the radio, this guy wanted to hear the track ”Lycanthropy”.It was a nice surprise. The track sounded better than what I expected.
But now I hear both these new tracks and tell myself that it’s impossible these guys don’t have more to offer than that. It’s almost exasperating.I know they play death metal that’s not meant to be brutal nor extreme,in any shape or form, but at least (in the past such as on records like ”Haunted”),the music created a mood. Now it totally sounds devoid of any sort of feel. It’s the same riff repeated all over the song. It’s totally sad.
Watch these guys start playing nĂ¼-metal on the next record. They’re on their way…
And yes,the voicemail at the beginning of the second track was absolutely useless.
I’m not one to talk shit about a band for the heck of it.Only I can’t make myself dig what this band has turned into..
SFU tribute band Torture Killer is way better than actual SFU. That says something.
@cornblood
John FUCKING Tardy
Personally i don’t mind six feet under or Chris Barnes, but at the end of the day they are better than any fake posers like bring me the horizon
