Everyone from Vince’s former home state of Michigan: MetalSucks is proud to now be co-sponsoring Dirt Fest 13, which will take place Saturday, July 11 at the Birch Run Expo Center in Birch Run, MI. The show will feature Necrophagist, Darkest Hour, Winds of Plague, Born of Osiris, Origin, and a whole bunch of awesome bands – PLUS 30 – 40 local bands, at least some of whom are bound to be finds. In other words: it promises to be a pretty kick-ass day.

And to sweeten the deal, the fest is teaming with Sick Drummer magazine for a “Sickest Dirt Fest Drummer” contest. Press release after the jump!

The contest, to be held at http://www.dirtfest.com and www.sickdrummer.com, will give local performers widespread exposure and a chance to win a feature in the September 2009 issue of Sick Drummer Magazine, A set of the new Z3 Zildjian Cymbals, a set of Aquarian Drumheads and other prizes. Entrants must be drummers scheduled to perform at this year’s Dirt Fest, register online and upload a video of their performances by July 1, 2009. Voters are encouraged to vote online and at the Sick Drummer Magazine Booth at the event.

  2. Jesse says:

Wow.. a commemorative fest for Canada’s #1 natural resource! Dirt!

  3. Chad E. Death says:

Dirt Fest has been the biggest heavy music fest in Michigan for some time now and the people who run it do a great job and the venue is really cool as well . As for the people who complain about the guy being a fuck , well maybe if you acted like adults you would be treated like one.

In regards to the comment about “the guy who runs dirt fest being a fuck…”

Do you have any idea what you’re talking about? What bad experience did you have with Dirt Fest that leads you to this conclusion? As Chad E Death said, “if you acted like an adult, you would be treated like one.” That is absolutely correct.

We’re proud of what we do. We’re proud to support local artists, local businesses, and nationally touring artists. We do our best to provide a fun atmosphere for reasonable prices. We treat everyone who works with us with the utmost respect.

We’re quite excited to team up with Metalsucks.net and promise you the best bang for your $20 bucks.

Built For Sin: I’m sorry you feel that the people who put this together are real fucks. It is very selfish of us to want to promote our music community and local business in a starving economy. We will do our best to not be such real fucks anymore. Thank you for your insight, and your charisma in posting anonymously. I will be waiting for you at the show to shake your hand.

Does Matt Dalton still run this? He wasn’t a bad guy at all. He was in some pretty good local bands a number of years ago too.

  7. Chad E. Death says:

It goes like this i have been a member of local band’s in Michigan and i work with a local group as we speak and people like Matt Dalton and the people who put on shows like this are the ones who are in all reality helping keep the Michigan Metal and Hardcore music scene alive.

Years ago there was the Flint Local 432 who were the ones putting on the great local shows in the area and now that places such as the Flint Local have shut down , there is a great void that needs to be filled and continuing on with the Dirt Fest in my opinion is a great thing and people like Matt Dalton and the other people who are involved with this should be praised and should be treated with the utmost respect .

The major problem local music in my state and others is that local band’s honestly think they are the next big thing so it warrants them to act and treat people a certain way , and usually it means acting like children and treating people poorly.

If all the black shirts would grow up and realize that its just music , and it doesn’t give you the right to act like an out right scum bag everyone would be way better off. Further more i think we need more people like Andy and Matt Dalton to help these bands with whom most of these bands would never see the light of day.

So thank you for putting on great show’s every year , and thank you for not being fucks and actually supporting and embracing local music.

    The internet is so mean!

  9. BATTLECROSS says:

Hey! We are really looking forward to Dirtfest 13, its going to be sick as hell! We (BATTLECROSS) are honored to be a part of it. Anyone interested in going MUST GO!! Hopefully we’ll see you all there *horns* ~Tony *guitar*

Oh yeah, and keep your eyes peeled for our drummer Mike Kreger, who is entering “The Sickest Dirtfest Drummer” contest! Should be a blast!

  10. Matt Dalton says:

Actually it’s true. I can kinda be a real fuck sometimes :-)
BUT that shouldn’t stop people from wanting to come to Dirt Fest, cuz rarely do I get to meet people while working to be a fuck to them since the show is basically DIY and myself as well as my brother and all our closet friends run around doing about 80 bajillion tasks at once to make sure people have a good time with little to no snags.

I don’t mind if people don’t like me personally, but hopefully they’ll still come to the show and enjoy themselves!

    -Matt
