SHRINEBUILDER: SLOW LIKE MOLASSES, AWESOME LIKE A BJ

I’ve had some family shit distracting me this week, but there’s really no excuse for the fact that I somehow completely missed the debut of a new song by uber-supergroup Shrinebuilder. Entitled “Pyramid of the Moon” and streaming right here, it is just seven-plus minutes of sheer excellence.

I’m not sure how to describe it, other than to say that it’s doom, and it’s more or less what you’d expect from a band that features members of Neurosis, The Mevlins, Sleep and Saint Vitus. Plus, there are some wacky keyboards and some monk-like chanting, just to give it an extra level of trippy. If you dig doom and you don’t like this song, then I don’t think you really like doom as much as you say you do.

Man, I wish I was high right now. Why am I not high right now?

Check out the song here, then weigh in with your opinions below.

Shrinebuilder’s debut album will be out on Neurot, uh, sometime soon, I hope.

Wino bless Michael Lira for bringing the song to my attention.

Their Myspace page simply says October in the quote section so my money is on the new material being released sometime that month.

  14. Will someone explain to Ziltoid what a BJ is so he can understand the analogy?

  15. Dude, I’ve heard the other songs and they’re even better than this track. Sounds exactly like what you’d expect except ten times better.

  16. Ian P says:

    Sounds like Pelican.

  17. Brosupre says:

Scott Kelly also features the new song on his weekly internet radio show Return To Zero.

  20. Sylvester says:

    OHYESOHYESOHYESOHYES!!!!!!!!!!

    About damn time!

    Fucking killer!

If the rest is even better as Satan Rosenbloom says, this could be the doom record of the year.

  21. Apocalyptimaniac says:

It’s like riding a hemp oil waterslide… the hair on the back of my neck is on end and it’s giving me goosebumps listening to it. this is as perfectly doomy as it gets!!!

  22. Not Nesesarily Stoned... says:

    But Melvinated!

This is only OK; I need to hear more…
    And ‘IanP ‘:
    Pelican are bed-shitters.
They COULD be so awesome, but let you down in the tightness dept. Not to mention they are boring.

  23. The entire album is amazing. Better yet, was hearing the whole album at Roadburn

  24. Jordan says:

I am buying this album as soon as possible. Amazing song.

  25. David says:

Vocals are a little weak, until what-sounds-like Al joins in on the chanting ‘ahhh’ stuff. The guitar sound is beyond….anything, really.

  26. evidently, this album is out already… the myspace dates for recording complete are from back in January…and i just d/l the whole 4 song disc
sounds much better than the myspace low quality shit
