NEW BTBAM MUSIC. BAM!

Thursday, September 17th, 2009 at 11:00am by Vince Neilstein

There’s so much great new metal coming out right now that I’m completely overwhelmed by trying to listen to all of it. New releases from Scar Symmetry, Living Colour and Alice in Chains have dominated my playlist this past week, while I haven’t even really gotten the time to pay proper attention to the latest from Converge and Black Dahlia Murder. New releases from The Destro, Revocation, Dethklok and Devin Townsend are right around the corner, as is Between the Buried and Me’s latest The Great Misdirect. I’m sure I’m forgetting a few, too. Fuck my life. Did I really just say that? Fuck me for saying “fuck my life.” My life rules.

So, BT-fucking-BAM. “Obfuscation,” a song of which we posted a live clip a couple of weeks back, is available in full at VictoryMetal.com or via the nifty widget below. Just enter in your email address, and ye shall have new BTBAM. Bam! (Word to the wise: I had trouble getting the widget to work in Firefox)

One-listen version: everything is more “er” than Colors. Proggier, heavier, melodic-er, ambitious-er. I’ll hold off on saying “better” until I hear the full record. The Great Misdirect drops October 27th.

For your concern, just put in a bullshit e-mail, like disregardthatisuckcocks@metalsucksisforpussies.com

  2. Jimmy says:

You just made my fucking day, metalsucks.

  3. builtforsin says:

Pretty good tune. All of the “progressive” stuff takes me a few listens to get into it.

  4. bloodtasteslikeshit says:

This band never ceases to impress.

  5. vikingfromhell890 says:

Yup, more concrete evidence that they are one of the best bands around.

  6. andjustice says:

    Jiiiiiiiizzzzzzzz. Spppplloooooooggge. Aaaaaaaaahyeeeeeeaaaaah.

  7. Dan Marsicano says:

Loved the new tune. I was a little surprised at how aggressive it was, especially with Rogers harsh vocals. Looking forward to checking out the rest of the album next month.

  8. Zoker says:

I’m not a fan of them but I gotta say this new song is not bad at all.

  9. ab12 says:

i thought colors was good but still pretty overrated, this sounds better imo

  10. mahkiavelli says:

Holy crap – that fucking rules. I’m seeing them in 2 weeks open for In Flames. I wonder how many songs could they possibly play in an opening act capacity?

    • slave_screams says:

They plan to play 2 new ones, Obfuscation and Disease, injury, madness – both are 10mins long – this is going to be colours + dream theater + pink floyd from what I have heard so far – and that’s a good thing

  11. DemonicLemming says:

Hm. Another album to pick up.

Is the new Scar Symmetry out retail now, or just advance listening for lucky fucks like you? I really want to see how the new dudes do (fingers crossed but not holding my breath).

  12. Gospel of Madness says:

This band is so overrated it makes me sick.

  13. Kick ass. I got a little gojira vibe towards the end.

  14. Me says:

I think colors is a masterpiece. Initially, this first song seems very dense. So many riffs flying everywhere but doesn’t feel like it has the cohesion of white walls. But, we’ll see.

  15. Richaod says:

Not saying this isn’t awesome, and not that it really matters, but since when do you need to input an email address just to STREAM a song?

  16. Clit Banger says:

Admittedly, I’ve always dismissed this band before even listening to them because the name kind of turned me off. After listening to this song, I’m actually kind of impressed… don’t really like the vocals, but the song is a pretty good slab of progressive metal. I don’t think they’d be able to make a full album of songs diverse enough to keep it fresh/interesting, but I’ll definitely give them a chance now.

  17. iceman says:

    hellllllll yeahhhhhh!!!

  18. Josh says:

Listen to it 3 times, maybe 4. Blaze between 2 and 3

  19. Kye says:

    Fucking love it.

  20. PD says:

No words can describe this. Except those.

  21. Rob says:

this is amazing. i really need to figure out how to rip it out of the widget so i can listen to it in my car

    • troe says:

Might make the quality a little choppy (depends on your play back quality, unfortunately), but you could open up Audacity, GarageBand or something of that nature and have it recording while the song is playing through the speakers. If there isn’t much background noise, you may be lucky enough to have a listen-able recording.

      \o/

  22. Malacoda says:

This is pretty good. Nothing sticks out, but then again, I had to listen to Colors a few times before I really fell in love with it. I really dig the harmonic minor wah solo over bass solo in the middle, that’s killer.

  23. Spwee says:

got no credit for the email =[

  24. LilalCFH says:

    That drummer is stupid good.

  25. LilalCFH says:

The song might be a little too “er” for my taste, but I really do need the whole album to be sure.

The last half was fuckin’ great, but that lead line over top of everything for 128 bars killed the first few minutes of the song.

  26. DidgeryDoo says:

I recently became hooked on Colors. I didn’t get at first that they had a very specific kind of style. I wasn’t listening closely at first and was turned off by vocals. I LOVE Colors now and the two new songs I’ve heard have me really anticipating the new album.
