GET DIVIDED AND UNITED WITH PARADISE LOST’S NEW ALBUM

Friday, September 18th, 2009 at 2:30pm by

paradise lostFor some reason Paradise Lost don’t seem to be getting much press around their new album — not just on this website, but in the entire U.S, both print and web. And it’s a shame, because this band has been making excellent albums for 20 years now and their latest, Faith Divides Us, Death Unites Us, is no exception. Stream the new album in full on the band’s MySpace page right now, and if you like it then make sure you buy it when it comes out on September 28th (that’s a Monday; it’s a European release, but really, in 2009 aren’t all releases basically worldwide by default?).

Seriously, folks; really good album here, and ya’ll are missing out on some dark, gothy, doomy metal. Pay attention.

Jesus Christ, sometimes I question if you guys actually listen to half of the bands you post about. Paradise Lost’s 2 most recent studio albums were great, but anything before that point going back to Draconian Times was pretty much garbage. They don’t get attention in the US because they hardly ever tour in the US (not that I blame them, I saw them in front of 45 people in Bedford, NH on their last trek. Great show, though.).

To say they’ve put out great albums for 20 years is just wrong. They should get more respect, love, adulation, praise, etc. for their past works (and 2 most recent works), but I had to call you out on that statement.

Sorry Matty, but apart from Host they have been super consistant, not doing a Maiden and making the same album over and over again, but consistantly producing decent stuff.Shades of God, Icon,Draconian times and One second are superb standalone albums.

Thanks guys (MS) for flagging possibly the most underrated and overlooked bands out there.

Hell no. While I agree that In Requiem and their self-titled are two of the best things they’ve done in ages, One Second and Symbol of Life are excellent for entirely different reasons. Some of their other middle-period albums are a little inconsistent and bloated with filler tracks, but they don’t have a single genuinely BAD album.

As far as I’m concerned, Draconian Times, In Requiem and their self-titled are their best (in that order).

Eh, no, it is you who is wrong. Your ears are pretty much garbage. Just had to call you out on that.

Sorry Matty, your opinion is wrong.

You know what I want to see, just once….. everyone that reads this site (and all the others listed on the right side of this screen) select one “lesser known” band and buy/download their new CD the first week it comes out, just to see if it could be elevated into the Top 10 for the week. It really wouldn’t mean much in the grand scheme of things, but I would like to see if this metal community could elevate a band like Paradise Lost into the top 10.

I agree, Paradise Lost are excellent. I don’t have anything after Symbol of Life (I need to remedy this), but I have most of their albums before that and they’re all good in different ways. I got to see them in Santa Ana with Opeth. It was an excellent show.

I’m a big Paradise Lost fan and I’m hoping the new album will be a damn good, repeatable listen. However i have a really nasty niggle because the last few times i’ve seen them they’ve been absolutely dire live including when they headlined being supported by Anathema and My Dying Bride. That gig with those 3 bands should have been a goddamn wet dream and it seemed like it was gonna be, Anathema were astounding, My Dying Bride were album perfect and engrossing… then Paradise Lost took the stage and seemed like they just couldn’t be arsed, it was a major let down; so much so that most post-gig conversation was about how if the bill had been reversed it would have been so much more what everybody had been hoping for.
It really pisses me off that they can still make superb albums but they’re so dull and uninteresting live :o(

I’d also like to add that whilst Host is the weakest album they released it’s still not really a bad album, at least they have the balls to experiment and pretty much keep it together. In the scheme of things Host is a much better and musically viable album than some of the shit being churned out of the grinder these days

Already pre-ordered this!! Listening to the stream right now, and sounds damn good!

And I still listen to Icon and One Second on my cassette ( ! ) player (yes, those are still around!) in my vehicle to and from work once or twice a week!

I’ve always liked their music, respected that they’ve walked their own path and been frustrated at how under appreciated they are here in their home country. But this album has raised the bar – incredible!

Every album they release is amazing for entirely different reasons (except this one and the last 2 which are amazing for the exact same reasons).
A lot of people here talk about Host. Host is… sometimes i think it’s their best album. it’s a perfect pop album. it’s also one of the most interesting and gutsy albums ever, way more then the new one for that matter.
having that said, after 3 days of listening to the stream over and over again i’m already hooked on the new one.
