ZILTY’S GONNA BE REAL EXCITED ABOUT THIS

Thursday, October 29th, 2009 at 12:30pm by Vince Neilstein

anubis gateAnubis Gate have begun writing material for a new record to be released in 2010. Halt the presses! Decent but unspectacular obscure band that sounds like a million other mainstream bands is working on a new record! Zilty’s creaming his pants in anticipation.

This band looks like muse featuring some dude that lives in his parents basement and only listens to death

  2. Eric says:

They aren’t the most spectacular thing I’ve ever heard, but I don’t know that I would call them “mainstream.” The production is, I suppose, but the songwriting is actually somewhat interesting.

  3. Canvas Of Flesh says:

The band isn’t my cup of tea, but, “Decent but unspectacular obscure band that sounds like a million other mainstream bands”? You sir, are a moron.

In other news, Ihsahn has begun work on his new album. Wooohooo.

  4. Snafu says:

And Vince proves once again that he doesn’t know shit about anything…

    • Trux says:

agreed sir… in fact this band is pretty good !!..

    • Ziltoid says:

This band is more than pretty good. Glad to see some support for AG here.

    • Metal J. says:

Great band. Better than 75 percent of the shit bands promoted on this site. The Detached is a phenomenal album and I can’t wait for the new album. Too bad the first time I hear about Anubis Gate on this site Vince labels them as generic. Pretty lame.

      • DemonicLemming says:

Well of course, it’s not a ______-core band, so according to him, it can’t be anything but generic. What’s funny is that most of the bands promoted around here are generic as shit, so maybe they just don’t understand the word?

    death t-shirt +1
    sunglasses -5

  6. Sammy says:

“Mainstream”? More like “decent, but obscure generic power metal band”. Since I haven’t heard a power metal band on the radio in 15 years, I’d say they’re not really mainstream.

  7. groverXIII says:

Anubis Gate isn’t bad, but they don’t exactly stand out from a lot of the other power-prog bands out there. I know I’ve listened to their album, yet I can’t really remember any of it. I don’t even remember what they sound like, tbh.

    • DemonicLemming says:

About the same here. I remember that it had something to do with being stuck on Mars or some shit, I think, but couldn’t really connect the songs with the song names. It’s ok background filler music, but not something I’d specifically pick out to listen to while reading or playing a game or anything.

  8. Sophus says:

Pro tip: when you and the rest of your band have photos taken of y’all wearing sunglasses indoors, you end up looking like douchebags, no matter how many metal shirts you have to balance it out.

  9. OmgtheseguysareDanish!
    I’ve never listened to them.

  10. Ziltoid says:

Haha, I already read this on b-mouth the other day. In fact, I’m listening to Andromeda Unchained right now, and I’m quite excited that they’re already writing more material. They did an excellent job at nearly perfecting the prog/power style with their latest album, The Detached, without going overboard with wankery. I can’t wait to see where they go from there.

Also, Jacob Hansen is a fucking awesome producer. If MS likes Mercenary’s sound, they should like Anubis Gate. Same producer, oddly similar sound despite differences in genre (although both bands are rather power metal-influenced). And Hansen is a beast of a vocalist, as shown in the last 2 AG albums.

Also, this is how a fucking metal ballad should be done:

The bassist has some damn excellent vocals, but the doomy riff really makes it, as well as the odd section after the guitar solo and the harmonized vocals at the end.

Remember when metal was fast, aggressive, and pissed off? Those were good times!

    Don’t feed the trolls, Vince.
