DAVE LOMBARDO SAID WHAT?!

You know we have nothing but respect for Dave Lombardo, but he just did this video interview with our friends at Noisecreep, and he said some disparaging things about two of metal’s greatest icons. Check it out:

[Lombardo] once said in an interview that MTV’s ‘Beavis and Butt-Head’ denigrated metal. So when Noisecreep sat down with Lombardo at Hollywood’s Amoeba Records for a video chat, we had to ask what was worse for metal: the animated MTV heroes or songs like ‘Every Rose Has Its Thorn?’

“‘Beavis and Butt-Head,’ because hair metal and regular metal split,” he says. “So I think it was definitely ‘Beavis and Butt-Head.’”

WHAT THE WHAT?!?! Is he being serious? How did Beavis and Butt-Head denigrate metal? Because it portrayed two metal heads as idiots? So what? So did Spinal Tap and Bill & Ted and a million other things before it, and so have Tenacious D and  Metalocalypse and a million other things after it, but I bet Lombardo doesn’t think any of those shows or movies were offensive.

How many kids do you think bought Pantera CDs because of that awesome clip of Beavis and Butt-Head pretending to be “Pantera”‘s dad? And at this point isn’t it more or less an accepted fact that Beavis and Butt Head launched White Zombie’s career? Isn’t it also an accepted fact that Beavis and Butt-Head is one of the funniest motherfucking goddamn shows of all time???

You break my heart, Dave Lombardo. You break my heart.

Oh, yeah. The rest of the Noisecreep video interview is pretty interesting, and less infuriating. Topics include the status of Slayer’s relationship with Dave Mustaine and why Jucifer are awesome. Check it out here.

I think I am now dumber after reading this article and commenting on it. Slow day eh.

    • Rachel

      You mean “more dumb,” correct?

      • DemonicLemming

Except neither is really proper English; it would be “I am now less intelligent,” among other choices.

        • http://www.easttexasunderground.net DaylightReckoning

Considering their worsening conditions, I think their current statements will suffice.

      • Mei

        The word is ‘dumberer’

  • WowWee!

Dave Lombardo may not like Beavis and Butt-Head but Tom Araya does.

Grown men in black metal bands that wear clown makeup and play dress up in demon outfits designed for 12 year olds on Halloween is what denigrates metal the most.

Lombardo is one of greatest metal drummers of all time (if not THE greatest), but he’s like the other members of Slayer—the less you hear them open their mouths, the better.

    • Noel

god, thats so false. this guy does a damn thrash beat for every song. yea, real innovative…

      • NoNameNoSlogan

uh Slayer is a thrash band so of course they’re going to have “thrash beats” (which isn’t even a real musical term) genius

      • Facebook User

The last time I heard anything from Dave Lombardo, it was when he was on That Metal Show with King of shit peddlers Eddie Trunk (sorry fans). On it, he said that he heard Nirvana’s Nevermind while recording South of Heaven. Nevermind was released in 1991, and South of Heaven was released in 1988. I’m guessing this guy just pieces together whatever his coke addled brain can manage, like in the film Momento.

        That being said, FUCKING SLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYER!

      • fester

Have you heard fantomas, you fucking stooge?

        • fester

          (reply to noel)

      • Biff Tannen

“god, thats so false. this guy does a damn thrash beat for every song. yea, real innovative…”

The guy pretty much INVENTED the thrash beat (which is still, after all these years probably my favorite metal beat)….the only earlier thrash beat I can think of is the track “Iron Maiden” on Maiden’s s/t debut, and “Genghis Khan” from Maiden’s 2nd album, “Killers”

    • Chris

I agree. I would probably like Slayer better if they didn’t seem like a bunch of douchebags with sticks up their asses. It seems like they take themselves and metal in general way too seriously to have fun or anything resembling a sense of humor. Kerry King is the worst, but I think Dave may be a close 2nd.

      • Biff Tannen

what are you talking about ? Tom Araya and Jeff Hanneman are both laid back stoners with nothing really bad to say about anyone.

        • Chris

Okay, I take part of my comment back. Tom and Jeff I don’t mind.

  • PD

It’s a proven fact there are idiots EVERYWHERE. I’m sure there are idiots who listen to country, hip-hop, pop, jazz, fuck…everything. I’m sure there are also geniuses who listen to the same music as well. It’s just more fun to watch people doing stupid things.

  • Facebook User

I loved the music video’s played on beavis and butthead. They turned me on to Crowbar and many others that I wouldn’t have known about otherwise.

  • H2O

I think it would have been a good thing that Pantera would have been left in the dark.

    • Biff Tannen

Beavis And Butthead didn’t hurt metal anymore than the ramblings of his band members (mainly King, as Araya seems normal) nor the behavior of 90% of their fanbase.

  • iolanach

“And at this point isn’t it more or less an accepted fact that Beavis and Butt Head launched White Zombie’s career?”

Undeniable proof that Lombardo is right.

    • NoNameNoSlogan

      hahah yes!

    • Genial Gentile

      LOL +1

  • John

Apparently sarcasm is lost on Mr. Lombardo

  • Kuranes

I got turned on to some music through Beavis and Butthead. Prong’s “Prove You Wrong” comes to mind.

  • Bicro

    Beavis and Butthead sucked.

  • DemonicLemming

Who doesn’t understand the point of comical satire? Dave Lombardo, evidently.

  • NoNameNoSlogan

Beavis and Butthead was a pretty good show (especially Beavis/Butthead saying Chris Cornell looked like jesus) but everyone has a right to their own opinion. Get over it.

  • deanerhead

B&B was the last MTV show to even play metal. When they canceled Headbanger’s Ball, the only place you’d see a Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, or Napalm Death video was on B&B.

    • stu1

HBB was on long after B&B

  • Trux

I always always said it: BEAVIS AND BUTTHEAD sucked donkey balls and were a totaly disgrace …

    I back up Lombardo`s comment 100%

  • Ziltoid

The funny part about this piece is that every reason you listed as to why Beavis and Butthead is good is actually a reason why they’ve been bad for metal.

    • Richard

      This.

    • 10000 Gays

      nope.

  • Frampler

Dave Lombardo’s a musician who takes his work pretty seriously, so it doesn’t surprise me that the light hearted and dumbass comedy of Beavis and Butt Head winds him up, nor that he thinks the image it portrays of metal is negative. Personally, I love Beavis and Butthead, but I don’t get worked up if someone whose musical artistic output I admire doesn’t have the same taste in comedy as me.

  • http://Www.hibernum.net Hibernum

Okay, this is where you post that video of the slayer fan you know? You can literally deal? Come on comedy gold!

  • Crxtenvengratnyum

Wait, wasn’t this site just bitching about how To Die For deingrated metal and used metal to display that someone is a bad person?

  • Fufkin

He can say what he wants – he’s Lombardo.

  • Deathexplosion

    metalheads denigrate metal.

  • MightierBlue

    You answered your own question:

“Beavis and Butt Head launched White Zombie’s career.”

Ipso Facto I agree with Lombardo.

  • Legions: iron and steel

Truth be told, if not for Beavis and Butt-head making fun of their videos I probably never would have developed an interest in bands like Carcass, Death and Morbid Angel.

  • Boob

never got into beavis and butt-head… just seemed to silly (which is crazy, because i like stupidly silly things)…. it was probably just a smidgen before my time (like, literally months before my time)

    • dot

i was lucky enough to catch reruns of it when it was first shown here in the tropics (around ’95-’96, i was in 3rd grade), and again when i was in high school. that was the time i got it. and i loved it.

but come to think of it, lombardo’s right, considering the popularization of the sterotypical image of metalheads/90′s kids because of beavis and butthead. though that was the funny part of b&b.

  • http://lreagins@gmail.com SKLives

Shut your fucking goddamn mouth……Dave is speaking.

    shhhhh

  • Jim Terry

Whatever Dave….why don’t you just get back to playing with Blue Man Group. yeah, that is FACT.

  • I killed a Dunky

In other words Beavis and Butthead should come back 2010 style

  • David Garland

Hmmm, what hurt metal worse, crappy music or a cartoon? I think someone is giving the cartoon too much credit…

  • nolavann

Thank you so much Dave for the concise “Beavis and Butthead” commentary revealing to us the truth… the “hidden” truth for the split between hair and regular metal. Who was that kid they used to pick on with the Winger t shirt? Hey ‘member that time they had crowbar on there and shit??

  • ITTOA666

He can say whatever he wants cause hes in slayer.

  • The dick

What an idiot. You can always tell a mommas teet suckler.

  • The dick

Just for the record slob zombie had popularity before. The interesting thing is the fact that the persons that enjoyed watching beavis and butthead…… That’s it there is nothing interesting. If you didn’t listen to death before b and b….then you weren’t out there in the metal scene. You were peeping over “I wanna be like my friends” book, but missing the whole picture.

  • http://zombietshirts.net/ zombie t shirts

i never commented before but i just had to now. good site.
