Everyone loves to bitch and moan about metal videos that were shot in a warehouse (or something that looks like it might be a warehouse – it seems to be that “warehouse” has basically come to mean “any location with plain walls”), but no one ever seems to complain about how many videos seem to be shot in the woods. I mean, I get it; there are only so many locations that “look metal” and are affordable on the kinds of budgets usually allocated to cinemetal. But I’m just saying, if you’re gonna belly ache, try to be an equal opportunity belly acher, m’kay?

So. Finntroll’s new video for “Solsagan.” It features the same “freaky shit happenin’ in the woods” motif that we’ve seen a million times before. Still, I kinda like the way it was shot, and except for the keyboards, which sound tinny to these old ears, I think it’s a pretty good song. It’ll appear on the band’s new album, Nifelvind, which comes out March 9 on Century. Give the clip a look-see…
