BENEATH THE SKY: “TERROR STARTS” WHEN YOU LISTEN TO THIS SONG

Thursday, April 8th, 2010 at 2:30pm by

Deathcore doesn’t get much more generic than Beneath the Sky. I’ve never gotten an e-mail about this band from a reader, never met anyone who’s into them, and generally find no reason to care about them. But it’s a slow news day and they have a new song, “Terror Starts at Home,” streaming here, so, y’know. I thought I’d mention it.

If you like this band, please tell me why in the comments section. Otherwise, please feel free to make fun of them, the way you guys make fun of even more shit than we do.

“Terror Starts at Home” will appear on BTS’ new album, In Loving Memory, which comes out via Victory on May 11. Hopefully the rest of the spring will be filled with interesting developments so that I never have to write about this album again. (Although I do kinda like that cover art.)

Its no wonder people don’t take ohio seriously.

    • Deth

C’mon now. These guys aren’t the best, but they certainly are representative of all Ohio metal. We still have Chimaira, Soulless, Acheron, Incantation (who says Pennsylvania is home, but most of the members live here), Estuary, Woe Of Tyrants, and Skeletonwitch – among many more.

Not every Ohio metal band sucks, but we do have our fair share – which can be said for any state, really.

and we have Brother Von Doom, Goatmill, Blood Of The Prophets, Pavidus, Hammer Horde, and tons more. ohio’s not bad at all.

        • Slender

Youre right. this is cincinnatis metal scene right here. WE also have rose funeral. fuck.

  • Andrew

I thought this band died…can they die again?

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ian-Wilmot/1177765489 Ian Wilmot

      they did
they broke up after their second album from what i remember

I love this band because A) they’re not deathcore, B) The Day The Music Died is one of my favorite albums of all time and C) the songwriting on that cd is badass and makes me very hopeful for this new one.

    • http://www.myspace.com/somethinglikesweet CJ

Well, ok, the new song is a bit deathcore-y but their last 2 albums definitely aren’t.

They’re a good band…unlike most, I can actually stand to listen to deathcore. But not Waking the Cadaver, they suck balls.

  • Steve WEINER MS

yeah sounds like every other shitty “deathcore” released. i hope every member spontaneously combusts on stage. plus the guitarist looks like michael berryman

  • Hated

They shoulda named the band Beneath This Guy…because this is some gay shit.

  • Brownsound

I first saw this band back in 08 in support of their first album, and all I can say is these dudes are super friendly, but their 2nd album blew hard. Really hard. If anyone is checking out this band check out the first album What Demons Do To Saints, the songwriting is just plain better, its catchy, plenty of juicy riffs in songs like 7861 and The Glamour Of Corruption.

  • 6infinit6hatred6

These dudes kick ass. Yeah, they’re generic, but they’re totally headbangable and badass. One of the only four deathcore bands I listen to, along with Whitechapel, Job For A Cowboy, and Despised Icon (RIP). But this new track kicks ass and I’m pumped for the new record.

“What Demons Do To Saints” is a good album. I mean, it’s not award winning, but it is a solid listen all the way through. The throaty vocals sound totally righteous and painful, also. I still listen to this album. Can’t say the same for “The Day The Music Died”. It has some good stuff, but isn’t solid all the way through. Some holes, nahmsayin’.
It sounds like they totally overmixed everything on the new song. Part of what made this band sound good was the stripped-down sound of of the dirty vocals and instruments. This new stuff sounds like Victory overproduced the hell out of it, like they are doing with everything nowadays.

  • SolaceInNothing

I picked up “What Demons Do To Saints” cause I thought the vocalist had a unique voice. The album is mediocre, haven’t listened to anything else since.

ahh fuck most of you on here Beneath The Sky rules. They’re probably one of my favorite bands from the metal/death core stuff.. not quite as heavy as say All Shall Perish but they rule none the less. Haters. hehe I dig this site but come on you guys give Deathcore and metalcore too much shit. I like Deathcore cuz it’s groovy death metal and death metal need more groove IMO. I get tired of punk influence on a lot of metal especially in death metal i.e. that constant bam bam bam bam, no groove… Anyhow I love most forms of metal (I’m not into grind or power metal) even Death and Metal core. \m/

Yeah I would have never put them in the death-core category, not like it matters but their first two CD’s were pretty straight up, better than most metal-core. I liked some songs on their last CD quite a bit, the song-writing is definitely better than most of their peers in the category. Songs actually manage to get stuck in your head. Original? Nah, but still fun to rock out too.

  • Zac

They sound like a beefed up old-school ZAO.

  • Sambo

The song is OK but holy crap have any of you actually read the lyrics to this song? It will leave you flabbergasted.

  • Chainsaw Majini

What Demons Do To Saints was an awesome release. The drumming and vocals were great. Their second album had some good qualities, but tanked in comparison to the first. I am not too jakked about this release. They did break up and got back together within months. Weird. I never thought to put them in the Deathcore category… Although when i saw them it was with Whitechapel. Back when they had their original kick-ass line-up.

  • DemonicLemming

Deathcore. Why do bands even bother making music in that niche? It’s always sucked and always will.

  • http://www.myspace.com/somethinglikesweet CJ

Really guys? Damn. I loved the 2nd WWWAAAYYYY more that the first one. I’m surprised by the consensus here.

    • Brownsound

Yeah.. for me, there was less groove and the clean vocals were horrible and a deal breaker. I also missed the keytar (lol)

  • Steve

you should be hit with a shovel and buried alive if you were to compare these guys to zao.

  • hikizume

I like ‘em ’cause it didn’t take long to see right through their mediocre breakdown verse / mediocre metalcore chorus formula. It’s cool if they’re 18 and been writing songs for like, 6 months. If not, shame on them.

  • I’m not racist, but I hate Oceano

Their song 7861 has a cool intro although it sounds a lot like Ion Dissonance’s Death of One Man is a Tragedy

  • Sounder

What Demons Do To Saints was a great listen. Not so sure about the new song.
