SO, ABOUT THIS NEW TRAP THEM JOINT

Trap Them - Darker HandcraftMuch has been made on this site about Trap Them, namely us not really being that into them and you all not really being that into us not really being that into them. I have nothing against this band at all, they’re just not really my thing. One time a member of the band confronted me about not liking his band, berated me for expressing my honest opinion on the Internet, and then revealed that he hates all bloggers de-facto. But from there the conversation spiraled into a spirited conversation about music criticism and the Internet that lasted close to an hour, and it was a really fun debate. We made nice, shook hands, and called it a night.

So I’m checking out this new Trap Them song “The Facts” posted over at SMN News (via Brooklyn Vegan), and I’ll say this: I’m liking it much more than I’ve liked any of the band’s prior material. Some of that might have to do with Kurt Ballou’s production, extremely tight and crisp yet somehow still incredibly aggressive and raw, and some of that’s got to do with the song itself which is pretty darn catchy. One might even say that I like the song, straight up! Imagine that. I’m not about to whip my dick out and start fapping all over my keyboard — Trap Them are way too cool, and they’ll never be nerdy, proggy or shreddy enough for me to do that — but “The Facts” is a neat little hardcore ditty that’s got me bobbing me head.

Darker Handcraft is the first record Trap Them will release via new label Prosthetic Records, and it’ll come out on March 15th. Pre-order it here.

Darker Handcraft. . .hmmmm . . .sounds like a reference to the aforementioned fapping.

This song is boring as shit, IMO, but I’m really not into these guys. Caught them live once or twice and their set was, well, boring as shit. Props on the Prosthetic deal but I don’t see anyone remembering these guys years from now.

i really like this band, it makes me wanna two-step down to your moms house and punch her right in the jaw. however, the above statement can easily be said about any deathcore band right now, 5 years from now if you asked me about of shitty metal/deathcore bands on any given summer tour that i’ve seen, you’d find that spot of my brain was replaced with malted hops and bong resin

        Solid Farley/Spade reference!!

I’m really into Trap Them. I don’t care that entombed did it first. However, this song definitely lacks a lot of intensity that was present in older material. Interested to hear the rest of the album. Hope it’s better than this.

i LOVE this band, but why the fuck is vinyl so expensive now?!? $18 for a single LP?

Despite the fact that the band members tend to run their mouths a bit, Trap Them are one of the better “Entombed-core” bands (really the only modern -core bullshit genre that doesn’t suck), and I can dig this song too. It might wear thin after a few listens, though. It feels a little too catchy, if you know what I mean.

Man, I am FAPPING over that song! Trap Them really is an excellent band. I’m not so sure about the genre. Would “hardcore punk” cover it? Don’t know, don’t care, cuz I’m diggin’ this.

free Trap Them show w/ Black Breath on Sunday. Thank you Scion!
Can’t get enough of these bastards.

A “neat little hardcore ditty.” Talk about a backhanded compliment.

Trap Them is awesome. Seizures in Barren Praise is a great album and Filth Rations was good as well.

  • GoingDeaf?

I dig Trap Them…. this song is just OK, though…. kinda got bored before it was done. That’s not good for a song under 4 minutes.

I really liked the last ep and lp they did but this song doesn’t have the intensity contained in those releases. I am curious to hear some more.

  • douchetouche’

Wow, sounds just like black breath (minus the good hooks though)

He’s been in the control room before, for TT. Namely Séance Prime, Seizures in Barren Praise and more, even (I don’t remember).

this song being any better than their old stuff can’t be because of Kurt Ballou as he produced their first album too.
