METALSUCKS EXCLUSIVE: AMERICAN HERITAGE PREMIERES “CITY OF GOD”

Monday, January 31st, 2011 at 1:00pm by

In this post-Crack The Skye world, a band like American Heritage is like sweet relief to lovers of angular, raging, uber-macho post-metal: Throughout their forthcoming sophomore album Sedentary, the Chicago quartet show little trepidation as would-be inheritors to Mastodon’s now-vacant throne. And one could say Ameri-Heri makes good economic and practical sense, too, as Sedentary employs a full whack of guest bassists (including members of Murder Construct, Black Cobra, Exhumed, Nachtmystium, and Buried At Sea) and provides a venue for Mastodon axeman Bill Kelliher to do a fucking guitar solo for once.

Sedentary is out March 1 on Translation Loss (pre-order here) but because we at MetalSucks believe in awesomeness, we present to you this exclusive advanced listen to its opening jam “City of God” (below). It’s a first taste of what MS scribe Satan Rosenbloom calls his favorite album of the year so far. He won’t be the only one.

This sounds exactly like Mastodon. What’s the point?

    • Kazz

I guess if you wish that Mastodon kept making Leviathan-esque records, then this is the stuff for you. They could pick much worse bands to ape though.

        Agreed! Goodness!

Oh, this kicks major ass. February isn’t even here yet and I already want it to be over.

  • Jman

Its not their sophomore album, I have Bipolar and Millenarian. Both albums rage like hell, and so will this. The fact that Mastodon actually supports this band says a lot I think ( they even did a split record with them on Delboy Records)

Mastodon’s definitely an influence on the band, but the remainder of the album is a hell of a lot punkier than “City of God” would lead you to believe. I’ll take their punchy, intricate songwriting over Mastodon’s last couple records anyday.

it’s like Mastodon when they were actually good

    American heritage=keelhaul+mastodon

    I also think they’re great

I get it, everyone’s sh**ting on Crack the Skye.

  • Loquendo

I don’t know if anyone knows this, or acknowledges this.

But does anyone find it funny that Scott (one of the guitar players) used to play drums in Ghosts and Vodka (along with the new bassist, Eric Bocek)

also, its funny that eric bocek played in Joan of Arc.

I like this band. They’ve been around as long as mastodon. So i don’t think they are rip offs. Its just the scene man…haha.

    Great band, awesome fuckin’ song.
