SKINDRED SEND OUT A “WARNING” TO POSEURS

Tuesday, April 12th, 2011 at 4:00pm by

It’s easy to see why youngins and metal noobz might think Skindred are 3rd-gen nu-metal drek, but despite what MS commenters will surely tell you following this post that couldn’t be further from the truth. Know your metal history, brah. Benji Webbe was doing this shit way before Durst ever stumbled into his first piece of nookie, and he still does it better than anyone. Plus, reggae = instant cred…. prove me wrong. Let’s ignore the identity of the other man singing in this song… yes, let’s just ignore that.

As Sergeant D would say (although about this band, I don’t know): Skindred = you’re moshing! Sarge, advance apologies if I just desecrated the piety of the mosh.

Warning comes from the new Skindred album Union Black, out April 25th.

“Prove me wrong”? Quit bitin’ my steez, Vince.

Skindred is living proof that metal can be FUN, that you can dance to it the way normies usually dance at concerts. The thing that I hate about these guys is how they NEVER hype their albums, which is why I never new they had a new album coming in two weeks until now. Also, the last record left me cold. Guitars solos, what the fuck?

i saw them open for Disturbed and All That Remains, after knowing of them for a number fo years ofcourse, considering I was all about Nu-metal at the time, (i still am, because im not critical about what people fucking think of me and my musical tastes, because OMG I GOTTA BE ABLE TO MOSH TO A BREAKDOWN).

Their stage presence was AWESOME, and the singers stage banter was HILARIOUS.

compared to All That Remains and Disturbed (who just played their music and left the stage), these guys are REAL FUN with the crowd, very interactive, and all around good guys hehehehe

      KUDOS TO SKINDRED! WICKED BAND!

I”m going to be one of those ‘I loved Dub War’s first album’ types of people, but I don’t care, I loved Dub War’s first album.

  • ACoffinShip

Damn it. After an article like that I was all set to hate these guys straight out of the gate. But call them what you will, they execute their aural assault with the utmost skill. It was like a throwback to those halcyon days where I didn’t think nu metal was fucking horrible.

    Yeah, I can dig this.

  • noobpotato

Man i’m surprised theres a lack of hate in these on here for skindred. Despite papa roach’s frontman’s pointless part, the songs alright. Fucking awesome band live.

  • Gipson

They’re really not a band I ever gave a lot of thought. I just remember loving, and I mean LOVING, “Pressure” back in the day. And that’s still a kick-ass song.

  • Dingas McCloud

Yeah Skindred has always been the exception to the rule. They are FUN as hell and the sole motivation to keep those dusty JNCO’s in your closet. Yup, I know you have them.

I love them, kind of unconvential band from what I mostly listen to, but yes: It is 100% catchy metal wqith simple but effective riffs! Benji Webbe and their catchy hooks is what makes this band!

  • The Overmatt

Skindred made a Disturbed concert not only bearable, but flat-out enjoyable. They’ll forever get my respect for that.

  • Isaac

Fucking love Skindred. Got into them from Need for Speed Underground 2, where they stood out as having the only non-shitty song on the soundtrack.

    • Isaac

And for the record, I like Papa Roach guy’s voice, but I just dislike the band. He’s alright in this, though.

    • Gabriel

Only non-shitty song? Did you forget Mudvayne’s “Determined”?

I like this guys, always have. Seen them live, they are fun live too. But lets face it…without Benji they would just be another generic nu metal band.

    • Isaac

Of course. He’s an integral part of their sound.

  • Sergeant D

Dear god, i never thought i would hear someone defend THIS band O_o

    • Ignignort

What he said……Regardless of what generation you call this, it’s still nu metal drek.

  • Joe

    Meh.

  • http://thenumberoftheblog.com/ groverXIII

Fuck yeah, I loves me some Skindred. I’m interested to hear the new album. These guys do such a great job of combining so many different styles with such fluidity.

  • Matt

I like Skindred. Love ‘um? Hardly. But, my hatred of Nu-Metal wasn’t about it’s accessibility. This band REALLY does something different and, y’know, it ain’t bad.

    You mad?

  • A normal human like the rest of you

I used to be into Darwin’s Waiting Room, there I said it.

    • Pastor of Muppets

You know, I indulged in more than my fair share of nu-metal drek (and still do) but Darwin’s Waiting Room are one band I just never understood the appeal of.

  • Beenyad

I really like Skindred but I found this a little boring. Also how the shit does their guitarist get that tone? Thick as hell.

  • Alex the Kilted Lobster

Skindred are an absolute shadow of what Dub War used to be. They’ve replaced groundbreaking cross-genre music and intelligent, politiced lyrics, to regurgitating stale nu-metal riffs over songs about how awesome they are. How the mighty have fallen.

  • Rik

The first Skindred album was awesome. Since then, not so much. And as disappointed as I was to learn of Jacoby Shaddix’s presence on this song, it turns out his part is actually pretty decent, it’s just the song in general which is poor.
