Revocation - Chaos of Forms

We’ve spent enough time talking about Revocation on this site for you to know that we think they’re the absolute bees knees and that their new album Chaos of Forms, comes out on August 16th. But since we know all of you are busy folks who don’t necessarily listen to everything we say, we figured we’d make it as easy as possible for you to see the light via a song premiere right here on this very page. All you have to do is click “play” below; if you like the new song “Dissolution Ritual” then hooray! — and if not, well, we’ll just have to agree to disagree.

    • MetalMeatHammer

That’s strange: a black metal elitist doesn’t like something that’s not black metal.

Holy shit, this album is going to be the biggest disappointment of 2011 and that fucking blows because their first 2 albums are genre-melting classics already. Each and every one of the 3 songs they’ve premiered thus far have been piss-poor attempts at making melodeath heavier. This song is actually the worst I’ve heard: I have no problems with simplistic music, but the chord riff that serves as the song’s foundation is poppy in the worst kind of way (uninteresting, generic, etc…). I’m sure that this song will be fun for them to play live, but if a song can’t engage me in the studio then it’s not a very good song.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Austin-Wells/100000827221296 Austin Wells

edit: For an example of a great chord riff that is relatively poppy for a metal band, see the intro riff to The Brain Scramblers. This band is declining in creative quality fast.

      • http://confrontingevilyoudread.wordpress.com logAnarchy

they’re not declining in creative quality (if anything they’re getting more creative), you just don’t like the new direction they’re going. Admit it.

The cat doesn’t KNOW of which it speaks… the song Cradle Robber is a classic already- and the CD isn’t even out-

  • Dan

meh. i dug their last album but i’m not hearing anything to crazy here. “it’s time to start the show!” zzzzzzz

  • The_I

This was some good, meaty riffing. I don’t like Revocation quite as much as Metalsucks, but I really dug this song and look forward to an album even better than their last.

  • SourDeez

Kinda boring song. I really don’t like the whole “judjud SKRONK judjud SKRONK” thing that seems to be all the rage right now. Today’s metal musicians need to learn that using dissonant chords all the fucking time is not necessarily “experimental.” That solo on the other hand…damn. That’s some nasty guitar work.

    • tingdurr

My thoughts exactly – the riffs/chorus are completely bleh and not all that interesting…..and then the solo comes around and my face is ripped from my skull. So I guess its a trade off.

      • Kurt Hansen

I’ve tried to listen to this song multiple time and the solo is the only thing I can find memorable…

It sucks because I fucking love Revocation :(

Looking forward to the album though, I’ll take all the solos from David as I can.

  • boazhimself

haters gon hate, imma gon buy this album.

  • basshole

i wouldn’t be posting this so close to that new Fleshgod track.. unless you want to make the discrepancy that noticable.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Josh-Kruk/520503461 Josh Kruk

That song takes some killer twists. As usual, Dave Davis provides something interesting and different with the solo. Well done boys.

  • Blacksmith

So you guys are responsible for leaking all of their new tracks from Chaos of Forms!? Well hurry the hell up and give us the last single “Cretin” I mean the damn album is right around the corner in Aug.! I’m impressed they can make some typical song, but totally make it their own sound. That swing section before those ridiculous, dual solos, and that spazed out riffing interlude, are too SICK.

  • Full Metal Life Jacket

Love Revocation, can’t wait for Chaos of Forms, but I gotta say this song is not that great. Liked the middle part, but that chorus is lame!

  • Corpse Pus

Not a big fan of their particular brand of ‘throwing up’-style of vocals, but that solo. Tasty and inshredible!

    • The Ghost With The Most

That “Televee” picture is AWESOME!!! Sadly, Revocation is not. “Overrated” and “generic” are apt descriptions, like “Kyle” said above.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Seth-Jones/736964211 Seth Jones

hope can’t save the dead just blows this band away!….. jk

  • DidgeryDo

Hey Hey! New Revocation is sweet. Slow jam rhythmic hook kinda like the title track off existence is futile with proggy interludes that suprised me but fit pretty damn well. Shredaholics won’t like this song because it’s lack of complexity but I’ve got this to say about that. I’ve got two friends who are genious with guitar playing but they have the worst taste in music in the world because the only dimension in music they recognize is music that has extremely hard to play guitar parts. Well, I know a thing or two about music myself but I don’t prioritize the skill it took to play the sounds over the how it actually sounds. In other words the first thing that strikes me, as a listener, is how it sounds. If it is the most brilliantly technical piece in the world but sounds like shit, well, I’ll say, “Well played sir, but it still sounds like shit.” These guys of course hold Arsis’ “We Are the Nightmare” in the highest regard because Malone shreds like a monster…..I actually dig that one a lot too….but it also has cool melodies and stuff to it.

Where am I going with all this? Oh yeah. Real simple. I like this tune even though it doesn’t feature a guitarist staccato hammering his fingers into a fret board until they are bloody stumps. It’s just a good tune that bears the distinct style of a band I dig……and please guys….this is Revocation….they are going to have some crazy shredding on this record. Personally I’d be more bored if they released some crazy shit as the promo song because isn’t that exactly what we all expect?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Robochrist-Feuerzauben/1328586275 Robochrist Feuerzauben

“full of face-ripping metal madness just like this song”

    really?

  • T.J.

I’m not impressed, maybe you just talked it up to much, I really love the first song they released off this album but this just sounds like melodeath, that I’ve heard a lot before, and really… a lot better before… I’m not saying the song is bad, but it’s clearly not going to be the best song on the album. I can understand a band moving out of it’s safety zone, but there are some bands you like to rely on for what they deliver, I’m worried the whole album will be power ballads now.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Austin-Hernandeman/708599027 Austin Hernandeman

Really reminds me of Empire Of The Obscene stuff which is fucking awesome.
Can’t wait for the rest of the album.

  • boazhimself

say what you want about their style and structure…dave davidson can wave that Berkey music degree in your face, and i believe he studied music theory.

  • http://danielldean10@yahoo.com Danno

i know everyone here loves sucking Revocations dick, but i don’t get it. the music’s alright, but the vocals are pathetic.

    • DidgeryDo

LOL c’mon. Every death metal band has pathetitic vocals. It was originally the hardest thing for me to get past, listening to growling rednecks who sound like they trained for their part by smoking twenty packs of cigarettes a day and with every enunciation they might just cough up an internal organ. Srsly man, to this day I can’t play this music to any normal people without them laughing. To most people it doesn’t sound badass and amazing it sounds primitive and retarded.
I learned to mostly ignore the vocals and focus on the tunes because the writing itself is awful at least 95 percent of the time in the genre too and most of the lyrics are not worth hearing even if you could discern what was being said.

ALl that being said at least Rev has passable writing skill, plays their instruments really well and put on a great live show ( Brooklyn in 2010 was the last I saw of them). Also their vocals sound DIFFERENT so the variety helps me get past my issues with growls.

      • piles of pigs

        Wow. Cool story bro.

      • yeah brah

        + 1,000,000,000

My thoughts exactly. Sometimes you read the lyrics and are left with that “no so fresh feeling,” so I too concentrate on the musicianship of the bands. Say all you want about Revocation, the guys can play!

        • DidgeryDo

Hell yeah! The lead singer is a trooper too, When I saw them in Brooklyn he was really sick ( I dont know if the sore throat hurt or helped the vocals lawl) but I give him credit for playing the show even though he felt like shit.

  • Beauzaque

Good stuff. Would expect no less.

  • Doxilon

Meh… Don’t really like the song. Boring.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jordan-Lunsford/100000821886561 Jordan Lunsford

    I love this band.

  • bitchass

that solo reminded me of levi/werstler sooo much

  • rollefingersme

yawn this is only slightly better than a kevin stewart panko article

  • Thegreatarianing

I’ve tried to get into this band many times.. Just doesn’t do it for me. Too generic. Not bringing anything new to the table for me. It’s all done well. They’re good technically. But it’s just so meh.
Nothing is really memorable to me and as everyone else said the vocals are good but nothing really grabs you…
And it’s awesome that he has a degree in music but eh that doesn’t mean shit. So does Rivers Cuomo. : D Nothing against him or weezer’s music but you don’t need to go to school to come up with that stuff ha.

    Dudes can play though.

    • The Other Matt

They’ve always struck me as a band just trying to imitate Megadeth/Mustaine.

  • John

The studio diaries of this band looked promising, and the last album showed a lot of promise, but the intro/verse riff to this song is HORRIBLE.

  • Kyle

I really dig some of Revocation’s work, but I also think they are a bit overrated. A lot of the material just sounds the same.

  • Mitchell

    cannot WAIT for this album!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Leonardo-Castanedo/100001332008546 Leonardo Castanedo

This song is pure passion, the solo part is just amazing

  • john white

this band has been blown so out of proportion b hipsters around the world. 7/10
al old materal is just 6/10

  • lybrium

meh. I like the old stuff better, and i hate saying that.

  • Darren

This song is good, not as good as the other three I’ve heard from this album but good. The solo, like all Revocation solos is unbelievable. It just kinda sucks that Metalsucks picked this song of all the good ones on the album. This song isn’t the best I’ve heard but nontheless I still pre-ordered myself a copy.
