Jason Newsted Explains His Soundwave Cancellation

Although there was initially some confusion about the news, Jason Newsted has officially announced that he is, indeed, canceling his appearance at Australia’s Soundwave Festival, which kicks off this weekend in Brisbane. Newsted says via Facebook page:

“Private and personal circumstances” is obviously and deliberately vague, so we don’t know what happened here — if, like Dave Mustaine, Newsted is now beefing with Soundwave founder AJ Maddah, or he suffered a death in the family, or he realized the plane ride to Australia is so long that it basically constitutes time travel and was like “fuck that,” or whatever. Maybe we’ll get the full scoop in ten or fifteen years.
