Fallujah Teach You How to “Levitate”
“Levitation” — streaming now at AV Club — is only the third song we’re hearing from Fallujah’s latest effort The Flesh Prevails and already I’m seeing “album of the year” praise thrown its way. Shit, I started seeing that phrase bandied about when we premiered the first of those songs, “Sapphire,” right here on MS!
Hyperbole aside, it’d be incredibly hard to disagree that Fallujah’s new material is both a huge step forward for the band and really fucking awesome. I absolutely love the almost violin-like quality of the lead guitar in “Levitation” — a song with so much going on that one listen is just not enough (I’ve listened three times already!) — and the way the keys seem to act as the glue that holds everything together for the eclectic bass and drums (and guitars). As Axl was getting at when he posted “Carved From Stone,” there’s a certain epic, cinematic quality to these songs that just brings you back there, wherever that happens to be… these notes seem to tell a story, and said story is super-dramatic.
The Flesh Prevails comes out July 22 on Unique Leader. Fallujah will be part of this year’s Summer Slaughter alongside Morbid Angel, Dying Fetus, The Faceless, Thy Art is Murder, Goatwhore, Origin, Decrepit Birth, and Within the Ruins. Get dates here.
