Music Video Premiere: Sight of Emptiness, “Deception,” feat. Christian Älvestam (ex-Scar Symmetry, Solution .45)

Costa Rican metallers Sight of Emptiness assembled quite the cast of special guests for their most recent album Instincts, a surprisingly fresh and nuanced slab of melodeath we liked very much here at the MS Mansion. Vocalist Whitfield Crane (Ugly Kid Joe) guests on the song “Essence” and later appeared in its music video, former Deicide guitarist Ralph Santolla and former Megadeth guitarist Glen Drover both contributed guitar solos and, tapping a completely different vein, Costa Rican Minister of Culture (!) Manuel Obregón lent his nimble hands to a piano lead on the song “Paradox.”

Here we find ex-Scar Symmetry and current Solution .45 pipe-wielder Christian Älvestam on the track “Deception” (just one of three Instincts tracks on which he appears). While the band wasn’t able to give Älvestam the Whitfield Crane treatment for a video cameo, they’ve gone an equally impressive route — if not moreso — by supplanting him with video footage of the jaw-dropping natural beauty of Iceland, shot during the band’s 2012 European tour by Andrés Montero Conde. Check out the captivating clip above.

Instincts is available for streaming in full at Bandcamp and for purchase at Amazon.
