WSOU Picks of the Week: Seven Kingdoms, Ayreon, Suffocation
Seton Hall University’s WSOU radio is the only all-metal, all-the-time station currently broadcasting in the US, and as been a force in metal for DECADES. It’s also streamable online from anywhere in the world! Each week, the staff of WSOU shares their picks for the heaviest of the heavy, as well as the station’s charts for that week, right here on MetalSucks. Enjoy:
Seven Kingdoms – “Stargazer” (Mike C.)
Seven Kingdoms are one of those bands that consistently garner reactions from WSOU listeners. Nine times out of ten, when this song plays on air, there is a fan calling up asking, “What did you just play? I loved it.” They are about to start a North American tour with Evergrey in May, and they are definitely worth checking out.
Ayreon – “Everybody Dies” (Joe R.)
The prog-metal project Ayreon, orchestrated by Arjen Lucassen, has an epic way of delivering some bad news. The song “Everybody Dies” off their new album The Source is filled with ear-piercing vocals, hard-hitting guitar riffs, and interesting breakdowns all performed by members of Dream Theater, Epica, Edguy, Nightwish, Blind Guardian and a bunch of other incredible bands. If you are a fan of epic, headbang-inducing metal, this song is definitely worth a listen. You’ll never be more pleased to hear that you and everyone you love are going to die a horrible, inevitable death.
Suffocation – “Your Last Breaths” (Adrianna M.)
Death metallers Suffocation just released their newest single off their upcoming album …Of the Dark Light. The band best known for pioneering the harsh, technical sounds of modern death metal continues their reign with their first song in four years. “Your Last Breaths,” with its insane drum work and ridiculous guitar solos, is both everything we wanted and everything we needed.
