Watch Slayer Cover Led Zeppelin During Soundcheck
If you’d have asked me, “Vince, with what song do Slayer soundcheck?” I certainly wouldn’t have come up with anything by Led Zeppelin. Toto, I may’ve suggested. Or perhaps Paula Cole.
But cover Led Zep they did during soundcheck last weekend in Dawson Creek, British Columbia, with a three-part rendition of “Rock and Roll.” Which makes sense, if you think about: all these dudes definitely grew up listening to Led Zeppelin, and they probably know how to play half their catalogue without even thinking about it.
Where is Kerry King, though? Hmm. Too evil for Zeppelin, perhaps?
Slayer sound-checked with ZZ Top’s “Tush” in North Carolina last month, so maybe they’ve been making a habit of warming up with covers without Kerry King (although he can be spotted getting ready stage left at the 1:22 mark in the ZZ Top video). You can watch footage of both below.
