Hands of Despair’s “L’Invasion”: U Jam?

Well of the Disquieted, the new album from Montreal’s Hands of Despair, was our beloved Emperor Rhombus’ pick for Album That Will Fuck Your Face Off in 2018. And while I still haven’t heard the whole album, going by the band’s new single, “L’invasion – I. Encres troubles,” Mr. Rhombus chose wisely.

While affordable drones have made it easy for any band to have an epic-looking video, few of them can write the epic music to match. This isn’t a problem for Hands of Despair, whose sound might best be described as tech-infused black metal. It makes sense that Gorguts’ Luc Lemay guests on the record, and it makes sense that the band shot their video in the snowy woods, but at the same time, this is clearly not the world’s umpteen-trillionth Gorguts wannabe, nor is it another bunch of corpse painted tr00 kvltists. It’s good stuff.

Check out “L’invasion – I. Encres troubles” below. Well of the Disquieted will be out in April on Deathbound Records.
