And the New Hellyeah Drummer is…

… Roy Mayorga. For at least one show, anyway.

Confirming rumors that first surfaced last month, Hellyeah today announced that Roy Mayorga (Stone Sour, ex-Soulfly) will play drums at the band’s first live show since the death of Vinnie Paul last June. Mayorga’s selection certainly makes sense given his reputation as great drummer and consummate professional.

The special one-off gig is a tribute to Vinnie that will take place on May 11 in Las Vegas, but not much else is known about the event. Presumably a number of special guests will be on hand to participate.

Hellyeah kept it short and sweet in their announcement via Facebook:

“Please welcome our dear friend and brother Roy Mayorga, who will be guesting behind the drum kit as we honor our brother Vinnie Paul. These men had so much love and mutual respect for each other, this makes our transition so much easier. Ready or not, here we come!”

Hellyeah’s new album — which will include Paul’s final recordings — comes out June 28. Presumably the band will do at least some touring in support of that album, and it’s presently unclear whether Mayorga will be a part of that.
