We May Know Who Hellyeah’s New Drummer Is

Who will be brave enough to man Hellyeah’s drum kit now that Vinnie Paul is gone? After all, those are some mighty big kicks to fill!

But filled they shall be, and word around the fire (and by “the fire,” I mean “the Internet”) is that it’s Roy Mayorga (Stone Sour, ex-Soulfly). This word seems to be based on Mayorga recently posting some photos on Instagram of a drum kit that people think bears a similarity to Paul’s kit. That might sound flimsy, but the rumor originated with Blabbermouth, who have a good track record with these things.

Assuming it is Mayorga, he makes sense as a choice: he’s a great drummer, has a reputation as a consummate professional, and there’s almost certainly some overlap in the Stone Sour/Hellyeah fanbase.

Presumably we’ll know for sure one way or the other soon: Hellyeah’s new album — which will include Paul’s final recordings — comes out June 28, and they’re playing a special show paying tribute to Vinnie on May 11 in Las Vegas.
