Down a dark, cavernous hallway in an oft-uncharted region of the ever expansive/expanding MetalSucks Mansion (our new Southwest Addition puts the Guggenheim’s to shame), is a tiny little crimson door which leads out into a ginormous stalagmite-heavy fortress of solitude that is known around these parts as the infamously wicked Wingerschmidt Wing aka the Cuddle Factory aka the World-Famous Slam Palace…

SOUNDZ FROM THE WINGERSCHMIDT WING: THOSE ARMS MIGHT BE SNAKES BUT MINE ARE PYTHONS WITH TARANTULAS COMIN’ OUTTA THEIR MOUTHS!A lot of fucked-up shit goes down in my M.S.ManSpace, but naturally a shit-ton of killer music is almost always blasting. Today I’m revisiting These Arms Are Snakes‘ 2004 rock-fest Oxeneers or the Lion Sleeps When Its Antelope Go Home, largely to remind myself of the band’s history in preparation for their upcoming album Tail Swallower and Dove, out October 7th on Suicide Squeeze records, a pretty interesting and diverse label that is home to various acts such as Crystal Skulls, a favorite non-metal band of mine from recent years, Russian Circles, a rockin’ instrumental prog outift who Vince interviewed earlier this year, and Eugene Mirman, a really funny absurdist comic from Park Slope, Brooklyn (he apparantly drinks at Commonwealth and Great Lakes if you wanna go harass/praise him, AFTER you check out the hilarious videos on his website of course), as well as certain releases from Minus the Bear, Modest Mouse, Hella, and even the late great Elliot Smith.

Now obviously all you old-school religious MetalSucks readers well know that I offered my leaning-to-mixed feelings on These Arms Are Snakes way back in mid-December of ’07, but I’m here now to re-endorse this band, as they are clearly striving to explore new territory in this post-post aggressive music world of ours, and that is to be praised and encouraged, nawmean?!? Their 2006 album Easter is really quite good, et plus their new song sounds pretty f’n sharp too — head on over to their MySpace page to have a listen..
