KVELERTAK FANS: SHOUT AT THE DJEVEL
You know we’re huge Kvelertak fans here at MetalSucks. So I was stoked to interview their vocalist, Erlend Hjelvik, yesterday. And one of the cooler things to come out of that chat was the news that Hjelvik now has a second band — Djevel. (The name is Norwegian for — you guessed it — “Devil.”)
In case the logo didn’t give it away, Djevel is a black metal band, and they sound nothing like Kvelertak — in fact, I’m not sure I would ever have guesed that Hjelvik was the vocalist if I didn’t know in advance. Of course, the fact that neither project sounds similar is a good thing — no point repeating oneself.
And Djevel seems pretty awesome. There’s only two songs up on the band’s Facebook page right now, but they’re definitely promising. This is raw, traditionalist BM (heh-heh, he said “BM”), and I’m stoked to hear more of it.
Djevel’s debut album, Dødssanger, will be released in Europe in June. Hjelvik said he wasn’t sure when/if there would be a North American release, but I’m sure clever fans will find ways to get their hands on the album. Alas, Hjelvik said Djevel have no touring plans, either… although the good news is that it sound Kvelertak are gonna be really, really busy over the course of the next year.
We’ll print the full interview soon, but in the meantime, enjoy some Djevel.
