FEAR, EMPTINESS, DECIBEL: GUESS WHO’S ON THE NEW COVER? (HINT: PIGS FEAR THEM)

They’re headlining the Third Annual MetalSucks/Metal Injection/ 1000 Knives CMJ showcase and are featured prominently in Decibel’s 100th Issue Celebration Show. MetalSucks just followed up a gushing review of their five-years-in-the-making Book Burner with the lyric video to “Burning Palm.” A Pig Destroyer/MetalSucks/Decibel threesome doesn’t exactly conjure fond memories of Wild Things, but we poured some more champagne on the Alexandria grindcore gods’ tits anyway, giving them our most literal cover since this delightful scamp last year.

Anyway, it’s an excellent piece, which is always the case when Nick Green spends quality time with a band. He didn’t get the story behind one of my favorite tattoos ever—electronics/hype man Blake Harrison immortalized himself with one of the Zodiac killer’s ciphers—but the remainder is way comprehensive: you’ll learn about new drummer Adam Jarvis’ unique Pig Destroyer workout regimen, the minutiae of guitarist Scott Hull’s process, and frontman J.R. Hayes’ candid analysis of his twisted inner workings. Not gravely serious enough? Try Agalloch’s somber Hall of Fame on post-metal classic The Mantle. Not hilarious/offensive enough? Try Daniel Lake’s depraved oral history of Brujeria. All the colors of the human experience are covered, as usual, right here.
