Megatallica – “Welcome To My Darkest Hour” Metallica/Megadeth Mega Mash-Up

megadtallica logoThere are a couple songs and parts of songs in the early Metallica canon that were actually written by Dave Mustaine during his tenure in the band, as is evident by the parallels between certain Megadeth and Metallica songs — for example,”Four Horsemen”/”Mechanix,” “Call of Ktulu/Hangar 18,” and “Dawn Patrol/God That Failed.” And of course, just by virtue of being founding members of the same genre, they sound pretty similar sometimes.

But that’s not enough for some people, and of course it’s the internet we’re talking about here, so someone’s gone and made a “what if?” mashup of the songs “In My Darkest Hour” by Megadeth and “Welcome Home (Sanitarium)” by Metallica, and have posted it under the clever name Megatallica. It’s not just a song mashup either — two videos have been seamlessly edited to make it seem as though they were one.

I think this is pretty cool, but I just realized the possibility of unintended consequences from this – it’s SO seamless, that to the uninitiated, this could pass for just another song by an 80s thrash band. It may be hard to imagine, but there are little pre-metal fans roaming the earth this very instant, and kids get all their knowledge from the internet now. Once they get a taste of the good stuff, they’re gonna be looking for more of it and go straight to YouTube. “Hey, have you heard of this band Megatallica? They’re awesome! Dave Mustaine and James Hetfield are the perfect combination, I hope this band stays together forever! I’m in sixth grade!” etc.

Makes you wonder what could have been.
