Hello MetalSucks reader! Welcome to the new Shit That Comes Out Today, your satanic bible of this week’s heavy new releases. We list ‘em, we spotlight ‘em, we link you to their preview jams and full streams — and we stick ‘em in a fancy Spotify playlist too (below) — all for your jammage! Now crank this shit up!

·

Chrome Over BrassChrome Over Brass
Chrome Over Brass (Deathwish)
On a playlist with: drum fills, drum solos, drum rolls
Listen “One Night In St. Regis” (here)

Guitarists have their solo albums. Why can’t drummers! The story behind Chrome Over Brass is this: it’s American Nightmare drummer Alex Garcia-Rivera and his hand-built drum kit. So if you’re into DIY, then this is somebody you’d want to take a closer look at. Everybody else might feel a few contributors wouldn’t have hurt.

·

A Dark OrbitA Dark Orbit
Inverted (Basick)
On a playlist with: Uneven Structure, Vildhjarta, Intervals
Listen “Floating Intact” (here)

Woe to all the bands who seem to circle around Uneven Structure (awesome) and Vildhjarta (even awesomer) — that’s tough competition. Especially in a subgenre littered with a bunch of junk. A Dark Orbit shares that oh-so-obvious Meshuggah influence/rip-off, but keeps heavy on the moody vocals and lyrics. I.e., Inverted is not as “complex” as other bands in their realm, but they make up slack with the right kind of energy!

We Lost The SeaWe Lost The Sea
Departure Songs (Translation Loss)
On a playlist with: Explosions In The Sky, Pelican, Mogwai
Listen Departure Songs full stream (here)

If you can stomach over an hour of instrumental post-rock, then this instrumental post-rock album is probably for you. Departure Songs is layered and ballsy and takes every advantage of not having vocals: long swaths of quiet times + a 24-minute long penultimate track which will either put you to sleep or give you the chills. Patience required? Yep. A payoff at the end? Likely.

·

vision of disorderVision Of Disorder
Razed To The Ground (Candlelight)
On a playlist with: Chimaria, Marilyn Manson, Bloodsimple
Listen Razed To The Ground full stream (here)

Razed To The Ground is a weird smorgasbord of influences: radio rock, hardcore, metalcore, etc. OGs Vision Of Disorder have their “own thang,” but the question of appeal will be a tough one to crack. Too poppy? Vocals too dorky? Probably, maybe another few hints from Chimaria wouldn’t have hurt. Anyway, interesting results from reusable building blocks is not a non-achievement.

·

the Moth GathererThe Moth Gatherer
The Earth Is The Sky (Agonia)
On a playlist with: Neurosis, Breach, Kongh
Listen The Earth Is The Sky full stream (here)

Sometimes it feels too long since the last decent doom release. And maybe it hasn’t been that long, but the clocks have been reset otherwise: The Earth Is The Sky is more than decent! Plenty of softer Euro sensibilities give the album a more electronic and produced feel, which is welcome in a genre sometimes bursting at the seams with grungy, poorly-recorded fuzz. Tried ‘n’ true doom fans will likely reject it, but they’ll have to deal.

·

grimaGrima
Devotion To Lord (Naturmacht)
On a playlist with: Panopticon, Earth And Pillars, Woe
Listen Devotion To Lord full stream (here)

To celebrate nature, that’s cool. To celebrate nature with blastbeats, that’s even cooler! Also: atmosphere and “the deep and might woods of Siberia.” You see where this is going — another atmospheric black metal album to add to your list. Hopefully book-cover-judges don’t immediately turn away Devotion To Lord for any assumptions of religious pretense, to do so would be a grave mistake!
