Guadalajara, Mexico’s Descartes a Kant are, almost without a doubt, the most bizarre band you’ve encountered in some time. To even attempt to try and explain their music with the simple genre classifications we usually use for such purposes would be a fool’s errand. Anyone who complains that there isn’t enough originality left in art simply has not yet encountered Descartes a Kant. They are the rare band where you really just need to shut up and check them out.

Which is why we’re naturally so excited to debut their strange new song, “Suppertime Rules,” and its equally-strange accompanying video. Rarely has the old adage that “Talking about music is like dancing about architecture” been as true as it is here. Band member Memo Ibarra (bass/synth) tells us that the song “talks about the pre-established rules of life, how they are imposed to you and how they affect you long term.” As if it would take a genius to figure out that this band does not care about imposed rules.

Do yourself a favor and check out Descartes a Kant’s “Suppertime Rules” below! The song will appear on the band’s upcoming release, Victims of Love Propaganda, which is “a concept album that questions all aspects of modern love through a series of dark tales of woe and limerance and break-up and grief” — what the band calls it an “emotional porn album.” It was produced by the legendary Steve Albini (Nirvana, Neurosis, Trash Talk, etc.), and comes out May 12 on Cleopatra Records. Pre-order it here!!!
