This New Downpour Song is Awesome (Members of Shadows Fall, Unearth, Seemless, etc.)

Today we got wind of a new(ish) band called Downpour featuring the following star-studded cast of characters:

Brian Fair (vocals, Shadows Fall, Overcast)
Matt Lebreton (guitars, Frozen, Cannae)
Pete Gelles (bass, Birch Hill Dam, Sorrowseed)
Derek Kerswill (drums, ex-Unearth, Seemless)

The group released a song called “The Serpent’s Tongue” in 2014, which somehow I’d missed, so the new one they just released is my first exposure to the group, and… I’m loving what I’m hearing. The song’s got some of the trademark elements you’d expect given the members’ pedigree, but it also feels fresh to me, not just a retread of mid-’00s Massachusetts metalcore. To me it feels bigger, grander, more atmospheric, and even heavier. It’s also GREAT to finally hear Brian Fair’s voice back on record again.

Fair tells MetalSucks via email:

“We hope to release the full length album at some point, possibly through crowd funding, possibly through some other means, but for now we just want to share the music instead of it just sitting around on a hard drive.”

Check it out the new song “Beautiful Nothing” below and see what you think.
