Check Out This Chilling Cover of the Requiem for a Dream Theme by You Bred Raptors?

If you’ve seen the 2000 film Requiem for a Dream even once, the images, characters and themes from the movie are no doubt seared into your gray matter. What a fucking powerful work of art; I remember being unable to shake it for DAYS after the first time I saw it in theaters.

The musical theme that recurs throughout the film has become iconic, inseparable from the film’s events and characters. Anytime I hear “Lux Aeterna” I think of Marlon Wayans and Jared Leto curled up on the floor in bliss, Ellen Burstyn’s manic/depressive state of pill-driven existence, Jennifer Connelly’s deep eyeshadow in that one scene (you know the scene). And everything else that comes with it all… ugh.

Sorry to depress you all, but this cover of “Lux Aeterna” by NYC-based proggy rock/metal weirdos You Bred Raptors? really hit me in that place this morning. It’s got everything that made the original so arresting, but with the band’s own unique, proggy, fusiony spin on it. Check out the music video below.

Catch You Bred Raptors? as the opening act at the MetalSucks-sponsored Lionize record release party on September 6th at Saint Vitus. Details here.
