Video: Christina Aguilera, Toto, No Doubt and More Covered in the Style of Ozzy Osbourne

0

The coolest part of these “covered in the style of ___” videos is getting a chance to focus on the specific sonic qualities that make a particular artist sound the way they do. Watching Ten Second Songs’ latest video — “10 Songs in the Style of Ozzy Osbourne” — makes the Prince of Darkness’s signature sound seem really, really simple when you get down to it:

  1. Thin, distorted guitar with a chorus effect on it
  2. Slightly out of key vocals with drawn out syllables, also with chorus on them
  3. Multi-tracked layers of everything

And that’s basically it! Throw in a pinched harmonic here and there and you’re good to go!

All that’s not to take anything away from Anthony Vincent, who does a fantastic job putting these all together, and whose abilities far exceed my own. It’s just startling how simple a particular artist’s style is when you boil it down to its essence… and I gather that’s why Vincent finds putting these together so much fun, too. Fellow YouTuber Eric “EROCK” Calderone lends an assist on this one.

Watch below as the duo tackles tracks by Christina Aguilera, Toto, No Doubt, Papa Roach and more in the style of Ozzy. You’ll swear these could’ve been recently unearthed B-sides from Blizzard of Ozz.
