Slayer Guitarist Gary Holt is Raging Against the Kardashians Again
Slayer/Exodus guitarist Gary Holt has taken a particular disliking to the Kardashian clan over the years. It started when Kendall Jenner wore a Slayer t-shirt at the 2014 Coachella Festival, which prompted Holt to don a custom shirt that read “Kill the Kardashians” on stage during his bands’ shows. Last year the feud was revived when Kendall and her sister Kylie released a merch line featuring their likenesses printed on top of iconic music imagery, including album covers and photos of Metallica and Ozzy (the line was subsequently shut down by lawyers). The Kardashians have since become an ongoing topic of conversation between Holt and the media, because why not? It gets eyeballs and clicks! I certainly don’t doubt he’s being sincere in his hatred of Kim and co., but it’s also good for business.
The topic came up again yesterday when Kim Kardashian went on a Twitter rant about how unfair it is that big fashion companies “rip off” designs from smaller independent designers. To which Gary Holt said (paraphrased), “Ummmmm, EXCUSE ME?”
Kim’s Twitter gripe:
“It’s devastating to see these fashion companies rip off designs that have taken the blood, sweat and tears of true designers who have put their all into their own original ideas. I’ve watched these companies profit off my husband’s work for years and now that it’s also affecting designers who have been so generous to give me access to their beautiful works, I can no longer sit silent.”
After which Holt went off via Instagram:
“‘It’s devastating to see these fashion companies rip off designs that have taken the blood, sweat and tears of true designers who have put their all into their own original ideas,’ So says this dumb fuck from a dumb fuck family with THE longest history of ripping off designers on this earth. Like when they thought NOTHING of taking musicians album covers WITHOUT permission and slapping their faces over them for 120 dollar T shirts, or buying one of each design by a designer (paper trail leading straight to them) then copying them, down to the last thread. Google Kardashian fashion rip offs. Hey Kim, go fuck yourself. #killthekardashians”
There is no planet on which Holt is anything other than 100% correct here. Unfortunately there is also no planet on which Kim Kardashian reads his message and comprehends it, nevermind gives a fuck. Do we even think she’s aware of who Gary Holt is? I’d love to hear a debate between Holt and Kardashian on the subject, I’ll tell you that. MetalSucks Podcast, anyone? You’re both invited!
