Lacuna Coil Debut New Song “Layers of Time”

This may be a controversial statement, but for my money, Lacuna Coil’s Delirium is the band’s best album to date. That leaves their upcoming release, Black Anima, in the same tough spot as all other albums that had to follow career highs: the bar has been set at an Eddie-on-the-cover-of-Number of the Beast height.

But Black Anima‘s first single, the newly-released “Layers of Time,” suggests that the album won’t be anticlimactic. It’s every bit as catchy as anything the band has ever released, sure, but catchy is where Lacuna Coil live. What sets the track apart from other entries in the Coil catalogue is its heaviness. Things get gentler for the Cristina Scabbia-sung chorus, and the Summer Slaughter crowd will still be like “Eh whatever I’ve heard Billy Joel songs this heavy,” but anyone who isn’t being an asinine asshole will have to give the song its due: this is some aggro shit right here.

Check out “Layers of Time” below. Black Anima comes out October 11. The band begins a tour with Bad Omens, Toothgrinder, and Uncured, or Bad Omens, Eximious, and Uncured, and some other band in September; get dates here.
