Scott Ian + Dave Lombardo Will Appear on the Score for the New Melissa McCarthy Movie

Have you seen the trailer for Thunder Force? The latest collaboration between Melissa McCarthy (Can You Ever Forgive Me?, Bridesmaids) and her husband, Ben Falcone (also Bridesmaids, Enough Said), is a superhero comedy that also stars Octavia Butler (The Help, Ma), Jason Bateman (Ozark, Arrested Development), Bobby Cannavale (Ant-Man, Win Win), Melissa Leo (The Fighter, Prisoners), and Pom Klementieff (Mantis from Guardians of the Galaxy).

All of those people are really talented, but every time McCarthy and Falcone write something together which Falcone then directs — as is the case here — the results are, er, lackluster (see: Tammy, The Boss, Life of the Party).

But anyway here’s the trailer (in which, not-incidentally, Ms. McCarthy wears a Slayer shirt):

So why am I rambling about what will likely be a very mediocre movie?

Because that movie is gonna be scored by Fil Eisler (Empire, How to Be Single, Proud Mary), and Mr. Eisler has revealed that it will feature “two of my childhood heroes,” Scott Ian (Anthrax) and Dave Lombardo (ex-Slayer; a million other things, too, but mostly ex-Slayer).

So at least we can assume the music will be good.

Both being members of Big Four bands, Ian and Lombardo naturally go way back. They most recently collaborated last year on Mr. Bungle’s The Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny Demo, which was one of my favorite albums of 2020.

Thunder Force hits Netflix on April 9.
