Louisiana metallic hardcore crew Capra just announced the biggest tour of their career, supporting legendary metalcore act Killswitch Engage for five dates next month. To celebrate the announcement, MetalSucks asked Capra guitarist Tyler Harper to let us pick his brain about what he’s been listening to lately. Can you tell he loves Every Time I Die?

Capra Tour Dates (supporting Killswitch Engage)

4.10.23 – Baltimore, MD @ Rams Head
4.11.23 – Charlotte, NC @ The Fillmore
4.13.23 – Norfolk, VA @ The Norva
4.14.23 – Lancaster, PA @ LAUNCH Music Conference
4.15. 23 – Cleveland, OH @ Agora Ballroom

Mindforce – “Words Fail”

This entire album has me hooked. Definitely one of my top five albums from 2022. I’ve always been a sucker for caveman chugs and quick pull off riffs so this album gets me moshing no matter where I am.

The Callous Daoboys – “A Brief Article Regarding Time Loops”

Watching this band grow over the years has been incredible. “Die on Mars” crushed me and then they came out swinging even harder with this album. This has always been a band I’ve said would take over and I’m so stoked that they’re doing just that.

Candy – “Good to Feel”

I got familiar with this band back in 2021 when I saw them open up for Every Time I Die in Baton Rouge, LA. They had so much energy and that’s something that always gets me when first seeing a band live. Candy is definitely another band that is going to the top.

BRAT – “Human Offense”

Louisiana homies! When I first heard this band I was floored and also super stoked that they were so close to us. Heavy riffs, powerful vocals, dance party intermission. What’s not to like? They’re one of our favorite bands to do shows with and I can’t wait to see what they do next.

Comeback Kid – “Dead on the Fence”

CK is one of my favorite bands of all time and their newest album reinforced that. The way they write songs has been such a big influence on me since I started playing guitar. I thibk its clear from the bands I’ve already mentioned that I’m into fun riffs and wild stage energy and CK is one of the bands that made me this way.

Godseyes – “Without Arms”

We got to meet and hang with these guys at Furnace Fest in 2022 and they blew me away with their performance. It’s always cool to share that passion and bond over hardcore. They’ve got the riffs that get me making that stank face and I hope we can cross paths again soon.

Lástima – “Hollow”

I found about this band because we had a day off in Philly the night before our show and we went to see our friends in BRAT. Lástima played right before and from the very first note, I was sold. I wanted to pull my phone out to get a video but I couldn’t look away. There was so much power and raw emotion going into this that I was frozen. I don’t get that feeling too often and I haven’t stopped listening to this band since.

American Standards – “The Dealer”

I met the vocalist, Brandon, in an ETIDIOTS group on Facebook and then realized we were both part of a ton of various other music groups. Hearing them for the first time felt like hearing ETID from an alternate universe and it hit all of my musical love languages. The riffs are relentless and keep me coming back for more.

Every Time I Die – “Dark Distance”

I don’t think anyone that has heard CAPRA would be surprised to hear that this is my top influence. Not only in the way that I write but also stage energy, attitude towards fans, and the artistic side of music. I was on tour when this album dropped and I don’t think I spoke until it was finished playing. They consistently put everything they have into each album and it shows. I’m gonna miss these dudes together but I can’t wait to see and hear the next journey.

Escuela Grind – “My Heart, My Hands”

I don’t think I can say that I love this band enough. They’re incredibly heavy, fast, chaotic, and incredible people. As with every band on this playlist, you can tell they’re doing exactly what they want to do and not caring who gets it. That’s what music is about. I get amped every time I see EG doing something bigger than the last time. I’m hopeful we’ll be seeing them very soon.
