Amon Amarth Drop a Four Track Digital Single As They’re Blown to Bits in the Video for “Heidrun”

0

Having just kicked off their major U.S. tour with Ghost earlier this week, our favorite group of viking-loving Swedes Amon Amarth unleashed a four track digital single onto the world overnight. With the song “Heidrun” from last year’s The Great Heathen Army serving as the centerpiece, the band dropped an accompanying music video that starts with rather hilarious fake news reels of the band’s accidental demise.

As you can see in the video below, they naturally ascend to Valhalla, prompting vocalist Johan Hegg and the rest of the band get the party going in the Norse afterlife of fallen warriors. It all looks like it was a blast to shoot, if I’m being honest. Just as with a huge amount of the band’s material, Hegg said “Heidrun” is based on a Norse mythology deep cut.

“Heidrun is an interesting mythological character, it’s a goat that stands on the roof of Valhalla eating the leaf of the big tree Lärad. The milk that she gives is the honey/mead that the warriors in Valhalla drink each night. The lyrics themselves are both about Vikings traveling the world but also metaphorically what it is to be a touring musician.”

A metal song about a mystical goat whose milk gets you fuuuucked up. That pretty much tracks — and explains why there’s a version of the song with goat vocals. Yes, you read that right — there’s a goat remix where they put goat sounds instead of the actual vocal track. It’s as ridiculous as you’d expect and you can hear that below the video.

As for their tour itinerary, you can check out their full run of shows running from tonight in Auburn, Washington until their headlining show with Gatecreeper on September 9 in Riverside, California.
