Country Star Carrie Underwood Covered Motörhead and You’re Probably Going to Get Mad About It

Back in May, Guns N’ Roses revealed that the openers for their North American tour would include some unexpected names, with Dirty Honey, The Pretenders, and The Warning among those listed. But what might have been the biggest surprise of them all was country music star Carrie Underwood.

Last week, the tour finally kicked off in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada and Underwood took the stage to perform a 18-song set that included covers ranging from Joan Jett’s “Bad Reputation” to Led Zeppelin’s “Rock and Roll.” But the song choice that’s very likely to ruffle your feathers, rustle your jimmies, and twist your panties into a bunch is the 2005 American Idol winner’s attempt at Motörhead‘s biggest hit, “Ace of Spades.”

And while the late, great Lemmy Kilmister regularly reminded people that Motörhead were a rock and roll band — not metal — damn it, he was one of our own. So when Underwood chose to perform that song, it was naturally going to draw some attention from our lot.

Now, I’m not going to pass judgement on this one, but I just know it’s going to anger you guys because she does that classic white girl trying to pretend like she’s hard rock thing by sing/yelling the song with that all too familiar cadence of “look at me, this is a heavy song and I’m hardcore too, you guys!”

That’s not to say that she isn’t a fan of the material. Underwood has gone on the record saying she likes working out to metal and enjoys herself some I Prevail. So who knows? Maybe it’s nothing to get angry over. Right guys?
