Dimebag’s Girlfriend Rita Haney Joined Pantera Onstage for “Walk”
Pantera played their first show in Texas in more than two decades late this past weekend, serving as a de facto homecoming for the iconic groove metal band. Though vocalist Phil Anselmo hails from Louisiana, the other three original members of the band — bassist Rex Brown, the late guitarist Dimebag Darrell and the late drummer Vinnie Paul — all called Texas their home state.
The weekend was particularly important for the band as well, since yesterday would have been Dimebag’s 57th birthday. To commemorate the occasion, the band was joined by Lamb of God vocalist Randy Blythe and Dime’s longtime girlfriend Rita Haney on stage during “Walk.”
There was a time where fans in the know considered it an impossibility that Haney and Anselmo would ever be seen in public together, but closer inspection shows that might not have been the case. In past interviews, Haney had said that she harbored no ill will toward the vocalist, though the two did have to mend things following Dime’s murder.
Though Pantera were in town because of their scheduled show in Arlington as part of the M72 Tour with Metallica, the tribute act added a stop the night before in Woodlands, Texas and a show in Austin, Texas last night for a couple of headlining gigs.
