Joey Belladonna Would Love to Sing for Journey (Even Though No One is Asking)

0

You may have heard about Beyond Frontiers, the Journey tribute band fronted by Anthrax singer Joey Belladonna. The band, who currently have a number of fall dates announced, was launched in March of 2020 and obviously did not have a whole lot of activity again until recently. In a recent radio interview (h/t Blabbermouth), Belladonna discussed the band and whether or not he’d ever been approached to sing for Journey.

“No, and I’ve jammed with the… Many times I’ve done the crew soundcheck, and I’ve spent many days with the band overall. I don’t even wanna go into it, but we did a lot of stuff together here and there on shows that they did over the years. So, and I know ’em and I’ve been touch with [drummer] Deen [Castronovo] a lot. But no, no one’s ever really asked me about joining or anything like that, which would’ve been interesting.”

I’m assuming that Belladonna hasn’t been approached about singing for Journey because singer Arnel Pineda has been with the band since 2007 but a man can still dream, as he expressed when asked what he’d do if asked to join Journey today.

“I would definitely be really interested in doing that. That would be great. Not that I think that that’s gonna happen, but, yeah, it would be great. I’d love that challenge. It would be great.”

As for why he even wanted to start a Journey tribute band in the first place, Belladonna said:

“Well, I’ve been singing Journey stuff throughout the years, but never had a band that I thought that would be, you know, willing to do it correctly and lengthy like where I could keep it going. I’ve always liked the music so much. I’ve owned all the music. I liked Journey long before Steve [Perry] even came. I have all those records, so I was really into the band a lot. But of course, when Steve came along, I was down with singing that live somewhere. And [I] just put it together and said I wanted to do a whole night of it. I just thought it would be fun, and it looked like a blast. And we do have a blast doing it.”
