Corey Taylor Cancels Aftershock Fest Appearance Due to Injury and COVID

After falling victim to COVID exposure and injury on the road, Corey Taylor had to cancel his solo performance at Aftershock Festival today in Sacramento, California.

The beloved Slipknot frontman was originally set to play at 5:35 p.m. PST today on the Jack Daniel’s stage, but now, Reddstar were moved from the Shockwave stage to Jack Daniel’s, and all artists have shifted in time slots. Fever 333 are filling in the slot Taylor would have had.

Taylor reached out to fans over social media to explain what happened:

“During our Los Angeles show this past week, I fell on stage and sustained a significant injury to my knee. On top of this, a few members of our band and crew have been impacted by COVID, and as a result, we are unable to perform.

“The health and safety of our team and the festival attendees is of utmost importance to us.

“We are deeply disappointed by this situation but are hoping for a fast recovery for everyone involved.

“Thank you for an amazing tour—and we can’t wait to rock out with you soon.

Serious followers of Taylor will remember that he had knee surgery back in May 2019, so a knee injury (assuming it’s the same knee) is definitely something to take seriously. He also had spinal surgery in 2016 to treat an undiagnosed broken neck (ouch) which he thinks happened in 1999 at a fall during an Ozzfest performance. If we weren’t already convinced that Taylor is tough and could kick all of our asses, we especially don’t want to mess with him knowing he’s a man who could live 17 years with a broken neck.

Given his history of taking falls from going too hard on stage, we’re glad he’s taking this seriously and resting and recovering. But if his past activity is any indicator, this injury won’t keep him out of the game for long.

The newly released Saturday Aftershock schedule is below for anyone curious or posted up at the fest.
