The Body and Dis Fig Announce Collaboration with New Single “Holy Lance”

Experimental sludge/doom/industrial outfit The Body is once again collaborating with an artist that’s a bit out of their wheelhouse, as they announced a new collaborative album with provocateur DJ Felicia Chen (aka Dis Fig). Set for release on February 23, Orchards of a Futile Heaven is sure to be the kind of wild ride that you’ve likely never experienced before.

To commemorate the announcement and give fans a taste of what’s to come, the duo have released their first single, “Holy Lance,” which you can check out below. We can already tell it’s going to be beautiful and haunting but also dissident and boundary pushing.

The Body, comprised of Lee Buford and Chip King, have been known for years as a band that push the limits of metal as we know it. They’ve also done a fair amount of artist collaborations with bands such as BIG|BRAVE, Assembly of Light, OAA, and Thou.

As for Dis Fig, she also creates outside of borders in the realms of electronic music and production. As such, Buford said the subsequent track is a result of their darkest forces combined.

“I always wanted the heavier stuff but I also didn’t really like heavier guitar music. None of it really felt quite heavy enough to me. A human can’t be as heavy as a machine.”

Diving deeper into the track, Chen chimed in with her own thoughts on the matter.

“I love the balance. You could never connect to just a machine as well as you could a human. Which is why the combination is so potent for me. I don’t want to hide. I think nothing connects you more empathetically than another human’s voice.”

The Body and Dis Fig will tour the U.S., U.K., and Europe next year in support of the collaboration, which can be preordered here.
