Down ‘Kinda’ Have Two New Songs Written

0

Next year will mark a solid decade since the dudes in the “don’t call it a supergroup” supergroup Down put out new music. It’s probably safe to assume they’re not going to complete those four EPs they set out to do back in 2012 and who knows what the story is on a covers album, but apparently sometimes they “kinda” write new tunes when they get together.

The revelation came about in a social media post yesterday in which Crowbar frontman Kirk Windstein posted a picture of himself and Corrosion of Conformity frontman Pepper Keenan in Down’s rehearsal studio in Louisiana. Both of them play guitar in Down, as I’m sure you’re aware, so that’s something. It’s unclear if anyone from the rest of the band was present or if it was just two dudes writing riffs.

Though the post is short and sweet, it brings a lot of hopes to surface for long-time fans.

“So…we kinda wrote 2 Down songs today!!!”

Things on the Down front have slowed down significantly in recent years and that’s largely due to the fact that all of the members are busy doing other shit. Keenan’s working on a new C.O.C. record, frontman Phil Anselmo is busy touring the world with the Pantera tribute, and Kirk Windstein has been busy working on Eye Am and releasing new Crowbar music last year with Zero and Below.

Still, there’s a desire within Down to get new music done in 2024, with Windstein most recently stating that next year was hopefully going to be the year it gets done.

“I hope that in the near future, that’s what happens and we’re able to do more Down in, say, ’24, ’25, whatever. But there’s no time limit on anything. I mean, Phil’s doing what he’s doing and God bless him for that. And I’m so proud of him. I really am.”

So who knows when we’ll get any new music from Down? Fingers crossed that it’s sooner than later.
