Full Of Hell
Broken Sword, Rotten Shield (Unique Leader Records)
What’s this? Yet another EP from the folks in Full Of Hell? You don’t say. Unlike their other EPs or collabs with bands like Nothing, Primitive Man, and Health, this time around they were able to explore their sound and try new shit. This time around, Broken Sword, Rotten Shield is described as a “blistering meditation on love, loss, and the crushing inevitability of grief,” only shown through the prism of a fantasy world featuring anthropomorphic dogs as knights.
LarcɆnia RoɆ
Extraction (Unique Leader Records)
The first time I got hit with a LarcɆnia RoɆ breakdown, my eyes practically rolled in the back of my head. If you’re a deathcore fan that craves only the heaviest and most brutal music possible, you’re gonna want to put this on. Slow, chugging, ignorant riffs, unrelenting blast beats, and abyssal vocals from not just one, but two dudes — this is what it sounds like when you take a sledgehammer to the dome.
Pelican
Flickering Resonance (Run For Cover Records)
They may consider themselves post-rock and what have you, but to my mind, they’re an instrumental doom metal band that just put out a killer record to just hit play, sit back, and let them take you on a ride.
Sleep Theory
Afterglow (Epitaph Records)
Yet another reminder that nu metal is the genre that just won’t die, Sleep Theory’s dropping their debut release today. From what I’ve heard, this has elements of modern rock and deathcore thrown into the mix. No wonder they’ve been doing pretty okay out on the festival circuit.
The Callous Daoboys
I Don’t Want To See You In Heaven (MNRK)
Okay, now they’re just showing off. After putting out killer releases like Celebrity Therapist in 2022 and God Smiles Upon The Callous Daoboys in 2023, I was amped to get my hands on this one today. Yes, it’s got the fucking crazy mathcore tunes drowning in panic chords, but this record’s got no qualms showing the band’s more melodic side as well. Fans will love it or hate it, but I Don’t Want To See You In Heaven is uniquely The Callous Daoboys in 2025.
