Introducing ‘For Fans Of’, a New MetalSucks Playlist Featuring Lesser Known Bands
(Editor’s note: You’ve seen our weekly ‘Top Tracks’ playlist, but what we’ve got here is a sneak peak for a brand new weekly set of songs aimed at highlighting smaller acts. This will eventually make it to Spotify and Apple Music, but for now, you can check out the tracks below.)
We’re excited to introduce our latest weekly feature, ‘For Fans Of’ – a brand-new playlist coming to you every Saturday featuring the best heavy tracks from up-and-coming bands you need on your radar!
The playlist is inspired by bands that you may or may not have heard up that are on the come up and blazing their path through the heavy scene today. These bands have lit a fire in popular subgenres like death metal, nu-metal, metalcore, black metal, prog metal, and more.
Big fan of Slayer? Then maybe check out the up-and-coming thrash metal group Demiricous. Have a soft spot for the progressive rock sound of Tool? Then give HAWXX a listen. Big fan of Johnny Davy’s pig squeals in Job For A Cowboy? Then check out Organectomy.
Discover the underdogs and play them loud.
“Get Through Water” by STOMACH
Starting strong with some indestructible sludge/doom metal from emerging Chicago-based trio STOMACH. “Get Through Winter” is a toe-curling slow burner. It’s for those who like to take their metal with a fresh cup of black coffee in the morning. You know, the hard stuff.
For Fans Of: Deinonychus, Tiamat, Electric Wizard
“Apparatus” by Blood Monolith
This week, Blood Monolith unleashed their debut studio album The Calling of Fire and for a first instalment, this record goes absolutely hard. “Apparatus” stands out on the record with a particular urgency. It commands your attention and is shared with a true death metal visualizer, you know the kind with chaotic, arbitrary images.
For Fans Of: Cannibal Corpse, Death, Euronymous
“Chemical Pattern” by lowheaven
Every year, there’s a conversation about ‘nu metal’ coming back and every year, there’s a new band on the scene proving that it’s forever evolving. On “Chemical Pattern,” lowheaven embraces the signature nu metal sound of muffled lo-fi vocal production. If you aren’t hooked by the get-go, then the gutsy breakdown will have you in a chokehold.
For Fans Of: Turnstile, Deftones, Cave In
“Running A Cemetery Without A License” by Intercourse
Firstly, let’s give an honorable mention for the iconic band name. Straddling the line between noise rock and hardcore punk, Connecticut outfit Intercourse goes hard on their latest single “Running A Cemetery Without A License.” The song comes as another taster lifted from their forthcoming album, and marks their new signing with Brutal Panda Records.
For Fans Of: Ufomammut, Swans, Melvins
“The Sun Will Always Shine” by Genune
Standing at a staggering eight minutes in length, Genune’s “The Sun Will Always Shine” is a powerful introduction to the group’s brand-new LP. Although post-death metal at its core, “The Sun Will Always Shine” flickers between gentle shoegaze into screamo vocals that sound like spell casting.
For Fans Of: Alcest, Oathbreaker, Burzum
“Face For Later” by Inhuman Condition
Though they’re still pretty small in the death metal scene, Floridian metal group Inhuman Condition is a band we’ve covered a few times. Earlier this week, they unleashed “Face For Later”, a belting track with jagged riffs and roaring vocals. The song is accompanied by vintage VHS-style video footage.
For Fans Of: Sodom, Lamb of God, Sepultura
“Solar Collapse Mandala” by Witherer
How do you take your death/doom metal in the morning? Progressive with deep gutturals? Yeah, Witherer has you covered. Their latest track, “Solar Collapse Mandela,” is a spellbinding mastermind that feels like the perfect backing track to a mystical duel between orcs. Expect to feel your bottom lip collapse pretty hard for this one.
For Fans Of: Disembowelment, Autopsy, Asphyx
“Unite” by Swollen Teeth
Swollen Teeth demand metalheads to “Unite” on this gutsy new release. And while this track might be gracing the softer side of this playlist, it still stands on its own two feet. Featuring annilating riffage, and an easy sing-along chorus.
For Fans Of: Counterparts, Knocked Loose, Every Time I Die
“Obsession” by Bleed Again
Maybe it’s their new guitarist, Bobby Didcott, or the slamming breakdown in the chorus. Either way, Bleed Again’s “Obsession” shows little mercy and is an anthemic metalcore release with electronic-induced production.
For Fans Of: Architects, Parkway Drive, The Devil Wears Prada
