Mastodon’s Brann Dailor is Synth-Rock Band Arcadea’s Lead Vocalist in “Fuzzy Planet”

Progressive metal outfit Mastodon may be in flux as they try to find a permanent replacement guitarist while working on new material and touring at the same time, but that doesn’t mean any side projects are on similar footing. In fact, long-running side project Arcadea announced their forthcoming album The Exodus of Gravity and now it features Brann Dailor sliding into the lead vocalist role.

For those that may not recall, Arcadea is a trippy space opera powered by synth rock. It features Dailor and synth masters Core Atoms and João Nogueira, who each come together to produce highly danceable, groovy tunes that should at times evoke some sort of emotional feeling, too.

Earlier today, the project released the first single and accompanying music video off the new album titled “Fuzzy Planet”. And though you’d likely expect to hear some stoner metal based on that title track, what you actually get is a bit of a bop.

Speaking of the track, Atoms says it’s all about a very familiar feeling many of us have felt at least one time in our lives.

“It’s about that first fuzzy feeling you get when you fall in love. Our lead character is recognizing that the spore has gotten in them and they’re starting to change. They’re awakening to all the beauty that’s around.”

As for Dailor, who I have to say really fits in his new lead vocalist role, he said the new track is meant to bring a little more happiness and fun to the project’s already prog-centric style.

“There’s something really hopeful and uplifting about it from a musical aesthetic. The object was to get a little more dancey and a little more fun. As much as we liked how proggy the last Arcadea album was, it reminded me of what I already do in Mastodon. We wanted to explore the idea of doing something different. So, I wanted to really concentrate on groove and dance and embracing the electronic aspect of it.”

The Exodus of Gravity will be released on August 22, but you can preorder your copy today.
